Ken Holland Press Conference

I get the hate for DD but he is still a top defensive damn, especially with MA.
Clarke is the got to go for offensive situations already as Ken said.
Don't hate the guy, he simply has become too slow to defend against an average NHL offense. Quick teams, and there are a lot of them in the NHL, turn him into the proverbial pylon. Paired with Ceci on the PK, perhaps the worst PK pairing ever and major factor in the Kings PK malfunction. Anderson spends a lot of time covering for Doughty during 5x5.

I remember watching the PK during the Avs series and thinking the Kings formation was so rigid Forsberg could have thrown the net around them. Successful PKs have aggressive, mobile components.

The Kings will be improved if Doughty plays fewer minutes, stays on the pine during PKs, or even better, retires before next season.

DD is being way underrated, for his defense.
His offense not so much.
Throw him the C and ask him to sign a team friendly contract, with an eye on his age.
If he says no , deadline trade.
Look what happens to the Kings after we lost 2 dmen last year.
Its devestating.
I don't mind losing Ceci but always have a replacement first or coming back.
The big hold is 2 c and the Kings don't have enough to trade for that and dreaming about a 1 c is not realistic .
Nor should it be Ken is smart enough not trade Q, Laf or BC, Picks

And what is a contract you would consider "team friendly"? Keep in mind this is a player who has always signed for top dollar over his career.

$5 million. He had 23 points, tied with Edmundson, 3 over Anderson, & 5 over Dumoulin. They all make between $3.8-4.1 million. And Ceci makes $4.5 million. He gets a little more just because of who he is & what he’s done in the past.

Fair, and I agree - I think $5m should be the max. That's more of a Legend bonus than a home team discount though.

Has anyone posted the player’s exit interview video yet? I haven’t seen it. They got everyone who was interviewed in 1 video. Besides Kopi there was no Helenius, Wright, Turcotte, Moverare, or Ceci.

Yeah, Byfield needs to play like a guy who was drafted 2OA….for 80 games of the season, not 20.

Apparently he battled two nagging injuries before the stretch of near-ppg production and good FO% to end the season. He's also proven he can face the best of this league. It would be sensible to try and give him the reigns after Kopitar retires and finally see what he's made of. It's tough to develop offsenive consistency if you're battling injuries, your linemates are often shuffled, you don't play PP1 and your head coach has no grasp how to utilize offense in general...if DJ stays I'm cautiously optimistic that QB would flourish. This league is full of late bloomers. Look at Tage Thompson. And yes, draft position is irrelevant in such case...QB was always deemed more of a "project".

100% agree.

Would be interesting to see the spans in which he was injured and how he played during those stretches vs the healthy stretches. When he was on a heater, after the HC change, I wonder what his health status was.

I agree that Byfield should be our L1 Center and it should be his to lose (barring bringing in a proven top line center via trade).

Ceci, is Holland's problem. I really don't mind Ceci, he didn't cost the team in the playoffs. Lack of scoring did the Kings in. So blame the top six.
You can say that, but in reality the D only put up 2 points in the playoffs which is also a significant problem. We need way more generation from the backend. Bottom 6 forwards put up 0 points, as did our top line center.

The scoring problem spans from top to bottom on this team.

The Kings also only allowed 13 goals in 4 games by the Avs (2 of which were EN).

Minny has allowed 14 goals in 2 games, with the likes of Hughes, Spurgeon, Faber, etc.

Kings D is a problem, but not the biggest problem. A defense’s job is to stop scoring chances, which they did. Offense is secondary.

To a degree, I agree with you. However, each of the Kings defensemen were also on the wrong end of the +/- and the Kings, as a whole, have above average forwards when it comes to the defensive side of the ice.

A defense's job is actually not only to stop goals against but also help contribute points and ensure their team outscores the opposition.

Kings simply do not have enough offensive firepower and that is every position on the ice sans the goalie.
