Kings 2021 Expansion Draft Protected List

are the lists finally out? Is there a good place to view all team's lists?

Word is kraken are signing Dreidger. With guys like Bishop being available as well, Quick and Jones aren't going anywhere

From Mayor's Manor:

LA KINGS PROTECTION LIST POWER RANKINGS – FINAL VERSION
All players are listed alphabetically, by position:

Goaltender
Cal Petersen

Defensemen
Drew Doughty
Matt Roy
Sean Walker

Forwards
Lias Andersson – a point-per-game player in the AHL this past season, he’s expected to take on a full-time role with the big club come October

Viktor Arvidsson – one of the two experienced forwards the Kings were looking to add this summer; we looked at how he fits into the Opening Night lineup here

Dustin Brown – even with a small chance the Kraken would take him if left exposed, he led the team in goals in 2021; and in a summer when the Kings are looking for more offense, they don’t want/need another hole to fill

Alex Iafallo – the Matt Roy of forwards; nothing flashy, yet certainly effective

Adrian Kempe – earned the trust of coach Todd McLellan during the 2021 season, showing he can be effective at multiple positions in the lineup

Anze Kopitar – severely underrated; quietly goes about his business as one of the best 200-foot players in the NHL

Trevor Moore – he’ll be protected, yet keep an eye on his contract negotiations this summer; he’s one-year away from unrestricted free agency

We protected Brown? I am really surprised on that

This is his PROJECTED list. Not the Kings' official list.

I know it's not official yet but we have a thread and it will be official any minute. I'm not trying to break the news.....

LIST OF KINGS PLAYERS AVAILABLE TO THE KRAKEN

Using the above information, here is a full list of Kings players eligible for the 2021 Expansion Draft:

Forwards – Andreas Athanasiou (RFA), Carl Grundstrom, Mikey Eyssimont (RFA), Martin Frk, Boko Imama (RFA), Brendan Lemieux, Blake Lizotte, Matt Luff (RFA), Drake Rymsha (RFA), and Austin Wagner

Defensemen – Mark Alt (UFA), Daniel Brickley (UFA), Kale Clague (RFA), Kurtis MacDermid, Olli Maatta, Jacob Moverare (RFA), and Austin Strand (RFA)

Goaltender – Jonathan Quick

Most of these guys btw are not real people.

So, if I'm the Kraken, I'm taking Athanasiou or Clague, depending on need of speed or D.

Take Maataa you cowards!! mhihi: :manybeers:

Calling it now, Klague gets selected and he never suits up for more than 5 games as a Kraken.

I'm sure many are, however the Mayor and other Kings insiders have been saying all along that Brown would be protected. Still seems strange.

I still have hope for Clague and would be bummed if he’s picked by the Kraken. However something tells me Strand is going to be better…

If you're Seattle, you have to ask if Clague is good enough to actually make their roster. Grundstrom might have a better shot of that.

In terms of talent, my selection order would Clague, Grundstrom, Lizotte and Wagner. Don't see the point of taking AA or Maatta, even though they are established NHL players.

Looking at the list, I was in the boat of "why would you keep Brown protected?" Now, I'm okay with it. This is a nice course correct for a guy who was frankly not treated the best by the org. This was a heart and soul guy who gave it all and led us to two cups - especially the first one. DL preached culture and then tore it down with a few moves - letting Voynov skate with the team, humiliating Richards and making his entire situation (drug problem) all about himself and the stripping of the captaincy of Brown.

Now, like a lot of you, I remember those lean years that Brown was having, but with hindsight, it seems like at least some of the blame is on the coach. The team was done with Sutter long before he was finally let go. I get it - how do you fire the guy who got you two cups - but then again, how do you publicly humiliate the guy who captained those teams? Don't forget, in 2015 they locked Sutter out of the dressing room. Tell me you haven't lost the room when the players won't even let you in the room.

So for me, this is a vote of confidence for a guy who was mistreated by the org and a sign that Blake isn't just talking the talk re: culture, he's walking the walk. I don't care who we lose (please God Maata or Lizotte), this was the right move.

HAven't heard his name at all, but after an impressive world championships (I thought) anyone think Wolanin could go?

Very interesting points, particularly with regards to restoring culture and making amends. Important things to consider! Still highly doubt Seattle would have taken him.

Good post. I think part of it is that if Brown was selected by Seattle, it would have interfered with their plan for next year much more than a Clague or Grundstrom being selected. Now they'd need to find another goal scorer in addition to the one they are still looking for. That means giving up assets or signing a UFA to probably more term that they'd want to do.

They probably figure Clague is more likely to be taken than Grundstrom, so there isn't a lot of risk. And if they lose Grundstrom, there are several players that could take his spot. If we end up adding another scoring forward this offseason as planned, someone will have to slide down the depth chart and he can fill Grundstrom's spot.
