Why is Blake wasting time and money on players he had and let go. If he wasn't good enough to keep the first time around, what makes him think he will the second time. Further the Sabres weren't playing him because he could crack there line up, if he makes the Kings then that says something about the kings talent level.

Perhaps they plan to use him in the AHL to fill the void left by moving Durzi up?
If they try to assign Wol to the AHL he's still gotta clear I think.
***13.22 When a Club claims a Player on Regular or Unconditional Waivers, and, subsequently,
in the same season it requests Waivers on the same Player and the original owning Club is the
successful and only Club making a Waiver claim, then the original owning Club shall be entitled
to Loan such Player to a club in another league within thirty days without further Waivers being
asked; provided that such Player has not participated in ten or more NHL Games (cumulative)
and remained on an NHL roster more than thirty days (cumulative) following such successful
claim.
It's possible i misunderstood, or OP misunderstood, but the implication was that they could assign him to teh AHL without having to clear.
With Doughty back from LTIR, if the Kings decide to keep Durzi, then Clague goes on waivers. Another forward, most likely Kupari, will need to be sent to Ontario make room for Athanasiou as well.
