EL SEGUNDO – The Kings have traded winger Corey Perry to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a 2028 second-round pick.

Perry, 40, was in his first campaign as a King after spending time with rivals like the Ducks, Chicago Blackhawks, Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars. He also played for the Montreal Canadiens for a season and spent two in Tampa, losing to Colorado in the 2022 Stanley Cup Final as a Bolt.

In all, Perry has played in six Final series, winning his first in 2007 with the Ducks. His odds of reaching a seventh just skyrocketed, as Tampa leads the stacked Atlantic Division.

Perry started the year recovering from knee surgery and was perhaps the Kings’ best forward for a stretch soon after. He play has tapered off, but his willingness to pay the price for precious ice as well as his tenacity, experience and netfront presence remain assets.

While the Kings were buyers before the Olympic break, acquiring Artemi Panarin from the New York Rangers, they have sold on consecutive days, moving Perry and Warren Foegele for draft picks ahead of Friday’s noon Pacific trade deadline.

More to come on this story.
