“To my knowledge, there were four teams that were willing to pay full price in terms of his cap hit to get him. LA was one, Carolina was another, Florida was in the mix…there were a number that were willing to take that whole cap hit.”

Makes sense to me - we have the room and if he's worth keeping after the contract, try to get a more reasonable number. Problem is with at least two of the other teams in the east, I imagine we'd have to give up more to convince them to do it. Still don't think we'd be talking a huge price, def not a first, but maaaaybe a second? I'd prefer a third, but I imagine Florida or Carolina are going to offer that much.

The kings first, this year or next would definitely put them in the driver's seat. No idea how you evaluate that shoulder but getting 100% Tank would be remarkable.

This article is 100% pure speculation, but if the cost is just the 8OA, I do it all day long, assuming Kings medical checks him out and confirms he is recovered.

For 8th Overall, they gotta eat some of the cap hit.

If we take on the full cap hit, I don't think 8OA is required. Especially with the bad blood between player and team. I would think Madden and a 2nd or 3rd could get it done.

Francis didn't help many teams with cap space. Washington is another team in deep trouble. They'll probably have to give away a defenseman. Or Kuznetsov in a lopsided hockey trade.

I would love to get Tank but the Blues already showed that they would prefer the cap space to the player. So I'm paying a bargain price if I trade for him

There will be some competition for his services. The shoulder injury is the only reason there is hesitation, the bad blood is what is making him available, not the shoulder. The question is what do you give up if you want him, not what is the cheapest we could squeak out being competitive to St Louis.

I'm gonna have to say that the Kings would be out of their minds to trade the 8th pick for this guy. Hell, I wouldn't even part ways with Madden. I know that's a terribly unpopular POV but this guy seems to be a whiner. I don't like it. But we'll see soon what the Kings have in mind.

If team docs performed shoulder surgery and both times missed a significant injury necessitating an independent doctor to come in, diagnose it correctly and do a third surgery, I'd be doing a lot of complaining myself.

100% agree. Mayyyybe if we had a pick in the 20's, but I'm thinking a second and if other teams are already offering that maybe a 2nd this year and a third next year or something like that. We need to do more than the other teams or they are sending him out east, but I would not give up Madden or the first personally.

It's actually not. Frank Seravalli is the one who said this is what he has heard about the Kings and he's always seemed pretty reliable to me.... and that was before yesterday when he basically ruined Seattle's whole night by leaking it all.

If Kings are trading 8th overall it will be for a player that will be with the future core, not on the decline, injury prone player like Tarasenko. Un top of that we know He wants out of St. Luis. 2nd round and 3round for this or next year plus maybe a bottom six forward. If healthy I would love to see Tank ride shotgun with Kopitar. I think both of them play similar possession style hockey and it will match with Kopi.

id trade madden and a second, not a 1st though. and i dont see any point in having StL retain, so the 1st is off the table.

That would be awesome!

The Kings need to trade for a marquee name and reinvigorate the fan base. Which leads me to this question:

How will the Kings do post-pandemic in attendance? It's not like our on-ice product had been outstanding prior to COVID. Makes me wonder if the arena will be full or half-empty. The Kings have always drawn well, but maybe things have changed. Having a Tarasenko couldn't hurt.

Agree completely. This has a vague resemblance to trading a 1st and a 3rd for Rick Martin, who retired 4 games or so after joining the Kings in 1981.

Wild speculation on my part, but my guess is that is why he hasn't yet been traded. STL is looking for a first or another valuable asset and they ain't gonna get it from anyone without retaining a big chunk of salary. If they don't retain, they don't have many potential trade partners.

The 2nd round pick this year, Kupari, Grans and Madden.

Pick any two of those.

Alert! It appears Dan Beckerman took over Reg's LGK account.

I see you Danny G....you sly AEG dog!!!

Would you rather have Tarasenko or Reinhart? Either one of them may cost you that 8th and/or a later pick+prospect. Which one is a better long term play...assuming you can lock either one up for a while.

A big part of me would rather have a lower risk 25 year old that is scoring close to 25 goals a year vs a 29 year old with very questionable health concerns. But, I can see where the thought of having a guy that has scored 30+ goals 5 of the last 7 years could be very enticing...it's just those last 2 years with 7 goals total that scares me.

that's my assumption as well. Im sure they're asking for a 1st. Additionally, might have been harder to trade before the expansion picks if teams were scared he'd get snatched, or they'd have to expose somebody else they didnt want to expose. Guess we'll see if anything happens now that th etrade freeze is lifted.

Would you rather have Tarasenko or Reinhart?

I think ultimately it depends on the ask, and i can see arguments in either direction. Tarasenko should be a lower cost gamble. Reinhart should be a higher cost, longer term fit.
