The following reports are from games played through end of day Sunday, January 28th.

ONTARIO REIGN (AHL)

Due to the Ontario Reign featuring a large volume of LA Kings prospects this season, each tracker will feature a select number of them on a rotating basis – largely culled from key performances for the prior week.

Reign Recap: 3-Game Slide Snapped on Chromiak Hat Trick and Portillo’s 41 Saves

Reign Report: Akil Thomas Remains Hot in Ontario’s 5-4 Loss at Tucson

Martin Chromiak, Forward (128th overall in 2020)

2023-2024 Stats: 11 goals, 9 assists, minus-2, 22 PIM in 40 games played

Chromiak ended his dry spell with a hat-trick that propelled the Reign past the Roadrunners on Friday, scoring all of his goals from the left side of the ice. He would cap that performance off with an assist, netting himself First Star of the Game with a four-point output.

Samuel Helenius, Center (59th overall in 2021)

2023-2024 Stats: 7 goals, 4 assists, plus-2, 40 PIM in 39 games played

The 6-foot-6 pivot gave the Roadrunners a run for their money in the final five minutes on Saturday, scoring twice in under a minute to pull the Reign within one. Acting as the screen, he would use his reach to bang an escaping rebound in for his first of the night. Cruising through the high slot about 40 seconds later, he tipped in a point shot for his second goal. Entering the campaign with just three career AHL goals, his seven this season have far exceeded that.

Akil Thomas, Forward (51st overall in 2018)

2023-2024 Stats: 15 goals, 15 assists, plus-1, 30 PIM in 41 games played

Thomas remained red-hot this week and was a play driver in both contests at Tucson. Already having an assist in the first match, he scored the eventual game-winner off a 2-on-1 tap-in, setup after Alex Turcotte patiently outwaited a sliding defender. He would later add a beautiful no-look assist on the last goal. Thomas followed that three-point performance by smacking home a rebound in the rematch on Saturday, sparking a pushback by the Reign.

With Thomas' goal and assist tonight, he has 24 points in the past 25 games.

Erik Portillo, Goalie (Acquired via trade with BUF)

2023-2024 Stats: 2.45 GAA, .923 SV%, 2 SO, and 12 wins in 20 games played

Portillo’s single start of the week was one of his campaign’s best, turning away 41-of-42 shots for his 12th win of the season. Outdone only by Chromiak, the Swede would be given Second Star of the Game, rightfully deserved considering the Reign were outshot 42-27.

OHL (Junior Hockey)

Kaleb Lawrence, London Knights, Right Wing (215th overall in 2022)

2023-2024 Stats

Matthew Mania, Sudbury Wolves, Defenseman (150th overall in 2023)

2023-2024 Stats: 3 goals, 13 assists, plus-7, 16 PIM in 24 games played

Sudbury picked up a pair of wins over North Bay by scores of 5-4 in regulation and 5-4 in overtime. Mania was a minus-3 in the first game and then ejected for a fighting major in the following contest.

QMJHL (Junior Hockey)

Angus Booth, Baie-Comeau Drakkar, LH Defensemen (116th overall in 2022)

2023-2024 Stats
Baie-Comeau Drakkar: 0 goals, 2 assists, plus-10, 11 PIM in 9 games played
Shawinigan Cataractes: 2 goals, 13 assists, plus-6, 26 PIM in 31 games played

Booth received a one-game suspension after being ejected for high sticking midway through the second period of a game against the Saguenéens. Drakkar would go on to lose that game 5-1. He then sat out a 4-1 Drakkar victory and is now eligible to return in their next game.

Sounds like Angus Booth cross checked someone in the face twice. #LAKings https://t.co/OXOIWw9qiU

That gives him 2 helpers in 7 games since joining the WHL. https://t.co/i5O7AXiMOz

The No.1 ranked Terriers walked away bruised and bloodied in the Battle of Boston after losing twice to No.2 ranked Boston College by a total outcome of 8-4. Shifting over to the left wing, Hughes was promoted to the second line and immediately made a difference. He sent a top-shelf snipe into the net’s right corner from the left dot to start a Terrier comeback in the first game. Then, in the next match, he again climbed the lineup, this time to ride shotgun on the top line with projected first-overall NHL draft pick Macklin Celebrini.
