2024-25 Season Review

Herrington spent his 2024-25 season playing for the USHL’s Lincoln Stars. In 56 games, he had 34 points (16 G, 18 A).

Early scouting notes on #GoKingsGo pick, Herrington…

High character, leader. Really good skater. Bomb of a shot, led USHL in goals by a d-man. Transitions pucks well and will jump in the play to add offense. Good defensive stick, defends well with feet and has some snarl. https://t.co/gYUQCtrw1m

Scouting Reports

McKeen’s Hockey:

“This season, playing for Lincoln, Herrington emerged as one of the USHL’s top two-way defenders and it has altered his pro projection. He led the USHL in goal scoring among defenders; his point shot and off puck instincts in the offensive zone are excellent. Think of the same way Kashawn Aitcheson is effective
as an offensive weapon in the OHL with Barrie. He’s also showing well in the defensive end, combining his good mobility with improved physicality to close gaps quickly and shut down rush attackers. He can be downright suffocating as a defensive player and his compete level is extremely admirable. There’s room for further fluidity and explosiveness in his stride, but he’s making gains.”

Future Considerations

“Herrington is a two-way defenseman recognized for his balanced skill set and occasional flashes of strong upside, though consistency and assertiveness remain areas for development. His skating is a clear asset, marked by fluid strides, reliable edgework and above-average mobility that allow him to maneuver through pressure, transition the puck with control, and contribute effectively while walking the offensive blue line. Though not elite, his movement enables strong puck retrievals, clean zone exits and efficient gap control in defensive scenarios. Offensively, Herrington displays polished puck skills and sound decision-making. He handles the puck with confidence, showing patience, poise and the ability to find passing lanes under pressure. He is capable of threading shots through traffic, moving laterally to create shooting angles, and keeping pucks alive at the line to extend possessions. His off-puck awareness in the offensive zone stands out, as he consistently positions himself to remain an option and support sustained pressure. He reads play well and keeps his head up, helping him make smart, simple plays that keep his team moving forward and maintain offensive flow. On the defensive side, Herrington is serviceable but not yet reliable. He uses an active stick, stays in lanes, and generally maintains positioning,”

Elite Prospects

“When Herrington steps on the ice, everything flows through him. He fluidly works laterally across the blueline waiting for lanes to open, joins every rush possible, and dives off the point to collect rebounds and get open for catch-and-release passes. Also a skilled passer, he starts a lot of passing plays and exchanges at the point, creating advantages for his forwards in the process.

In the professional ranks, Herrington’s defence will likely become a bigger part of his game. He surprises opponents with reach off the rush, defends the middle effectively, and brings a lot of physicality in his best defensive games. Puck management is a strength, combining play-creating ideas on breakouts with strong play selection.
