The NHL and NHL Players’ Association differ on levels of optimism that should be attached to it but make no mistake about what happened last Tuesday in a key meeting.
The International Olympic Committee made overtures to welcome NHL players back into the fold.
“Yes, it’s pretty exciting stuff,’’ NHLPA executive Mathieu Schneider told The Athletic on Sunday. “I’m not sure if I would say it surprised us, but we were happy with the meeting, there’s no question about it. It was a really positive meeting. It was a really good gesture on the IOC’s part.’’
......

“I would say from the international perspective, a positive meeting because they heard and seemed willing to address some of our major concerns,’’ NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly told The Athletic via email on Sunday. “From an overall perspective, I would say we have a long way to go. I wouldn’t get overly excited.’’

Guess you can?t have it both ways I like the idea of non-professionals people living the Olympic hockey dream but it is more fun when you?re invested in a player and get to root for a game where SVK plays OAR. That being said Team USA is the defending champs in Men's Curling (dudes I could not pick out of a line up) and I love it; so suck it Canada! USA! USA! USA!

Bettman is a clown.

Olympic amateur hockey :crickets: The viewing audience will be VERY small.

NHL players in the Olympics, your viewing audience is much larger.

Marketing 101: The Olympics is a WORLD stage....what better showcase to show your product: THE NHL.

NHL fans want it, the players overwhelmingly want it ....the WORLD wants it.

Bonehead Bettman can't get it through his head.....just pay for some of the costs, they will more than pay the league back in increased interest and revenue.
Hey Gary, your league needs fans.

.....oh but they may get injured......and they may not.....they could get injured in ANY game (olympic, or NHL)...it's a poor excuse.
Fans of NHL clubs want to see their players play in the games.

....meanwhile, Gary is serving up more outdoor games that nobody is watching, and are a horrible experience live and on TV....but it's a circus novelty....long worn off.

Bonehead Bettman: Sell the GAME not the sideshow circus. Send them to the Olympics.

:rantover:

Awe. We’re going to miss Gar-bear when he’s gone. What makes me see red is when he hands the Stanley Cup to the Captain and then just walks away. He never watches the sheer joy that takes place microseconds afterwards. Every year, I think, no this team just did something amazing he HAS to see the celebration first hand—nada. Booooooooooooo
