On the emotions of setting the all-time franchise record for points
I mean, quite honestly, feels pretty sh*tty, losing the game, I can imagine it would feel a lot better if we finished it off and won the game.
On having his family in New York for a moment like that
Yeah, I mean, it wasn’t planned like that, it’s just how it worked out. They actually weren’t in building, but they’re back in the city waiting for me, so hopefully they won’t go to bed quite yet.

I mean, I connected really good on it, but when I heard the sound, I figured it was bar and up and not bar and down.
On the momentum swings in the game and ultimately falling short
I thought we came out pretty flat in the first, they were dictating the pace and everything. Then, in the second, we were the ones coming out and controlling the play. Then it flipped again in the third. Going into the third, being up by one, it’s obviously not ideal if you get scored on, on the first shift, so all bets are off after that. We came back, tied it up again, but eventually we couldn’t close it.
On balancing the playoff race against any kind of nostalgia in games like this
We’re right in the thick of things right now, so there’s not a whole lot of time to think about that. It’s times like this, after the game, where you think about that, potentially your last time.

On a disappointing result and not being able to get at least a point from this game
Yeah, 100 percent. At the end of the day, we’ve got to get that one to overtime, probably. Two bad penalties in the third period. With the game on the line, you’ve got to manage it. We found ways to come back, we battled, but they score the first shift of the of the third period. We just gave them too many chances.
On seeing Anze Kopitar reach such a special milestone
I mean, that’s outstanding. He’s been unbelievable and he continues to be one of our best players, every single night, right now. That’s very disappointing that we can’t get it across the line tonight for him.
On the changes in momentum throughout the game
I didn’t think we were competitive enough in the first period, to be honest. Second period, we were great, we played the way we’ve got to play. In the third period, we were fine, it’s just we took two penalties, they scored on both.
On not being able to get a third-period lead over the line and the importance of closing the trip strong Monday
Back to back, we’re in a real good spot going into the third period and that’s a time where you’ve got to take the reins and make simple plays. We just didn’t do that……At the end of the day, I think every guy in that room knows where we want to go and we’ve got to push and give ourselves a win on Monday.
On the play of the fourth line in helping to flip the momentum of the game
They were one of our best lines all night. They put the puck in, they went to work, they did their job. Can’t ask any more from them. We’ve got to put this behind us, but ultimately, you can’t take the penalties, then you’ve got to find a way to kill one. You’ve got to get it to overtime.
