Not sure if this little tid-bid ever was public (not to me anyways) - but a caller asked Nick about if he pursued the TV gig after Bob retired or did he just pass to stay on radio.

Nick said he "expressed interest" in the job, but the franchise chose "to go a different direction" with Alex.

Another question was in all the years he's been doing games - has he ever "just attended" a hockey game "as a regular fan" - Nick said maybe 20 total in all his years & it's a completely different experience with no headsets with the balance of crowd noise, Daryl or the producer giving information "for 3 hours"

Lastly - he said that Alex "was doing a great job" ....

I'm not a Faust basher, but Nick should have been given the job if he was interested.

I feel so bad for Nick, Daryl, and the radio staff... for not being on the actual radio either. I refuse to listen to it on the app or whatever. I miss Kings Talk. lol

fight the power!

What a kick in the nuts to a Kings legend, Nick Nickson from the organization. Then again, maybe it was a blessing. Because the "different direction" the franchise has been going really sucks.

DJ's used to say to each other, "You have a face made for radio". LOL

If they weren't gonna get nick for it they shoulda got snoop full time

I assume they wanted someone younger who would likely stick around for a while. Nick's not much younger than Bob.

The game Nick provided the play by play during the tv broadcast this year really brought back great memories. He was stellar.

They ("they" being the Kings) should just do as the Hurricanes do...1 broadcast team that does TV and then that airs on the radio broadcast. It's on Bally's Sports so they somehow manage to work out the rights issues (there are diffierent commercials on the radio broadcast than on the TV). But it should be Nick & Daryl. I love Foxy, but him with Faust is just not the best pair. And Faust seems to have broader ambitions than sticking with the Kings for 100 years.

Yep there was another Kings talk one night, I think it was the year he took over for the remainder on TV when Bob first began to get sick. A caller asked if he was going to take over permanently when Bob retires and he just said "that's up to FOX Sports West" and I'm not sure how genuine that answer from him really was?

I always thought it should have been Nick and Darryl on tv and Jim between the benches chiming in now and then

My real beef with Faust is that he doesn't and never will have an understanding for the nuance of the sport. That's something the other 3 have in spades and he simply doesn't.

This is really surprising to hear because I've always imagined the exact opposite. I've always imagined the job was Nick's by default and he specifically chose to not transition to television for some personal reason.

I don't dislike Faust as much as a lot of people around here, but Nick just personifies Kings hockey in a way Faust never will.

They used to do that of course...called it a "simul-cast". It was Bob and Nick right before they separated them for how they do it now...Nick doing color. It was early in the Gretzky era if memory serves.

As to Nick's situation I was disappointed. I thought Nick should have moved to TV and John Rosen should have got the radio gig...he was pretty good, IMO.

Bob and Nick doing simulcasts in the 80's, when both were in their prime, were an absolute treat to listen to!!! It took awhile to get used to them being separated into radio and TV.

You are right of course but Bob and Pete Weber were real good also. Weber was pretty funny and I remember being real disappointed when he left (mid-season as I recall...I think it was the year they beat EDM).

I really miss Bob. :notsure:

This team has not done well since he was telling us what they on the ice did, and we understood it as Gods word in our ears, watching with our own eyes. Ashamed of the reasons he could not call The Cup games.. You want fans? Keep the ones you have. Nick was the expected heir to the throne us fans expected, needed after such a loss. Lucky, do you really talk to fans and not just watch their mouths flap bust listen to their hearts or do you console back to your wife and investors?

Yeah but how long is Nick Nickson going to be doing this? I can only imagine the powers that be wanted someone younger who could potentially fill the shoes for a longer period, because Nickson himself is probably going to be retiring soon.

Though I don't much care for Faust and am happy every time Nick replaces him.

I get that but we are a few years into the Faust era and there's no way he is as good as Nick. Why not ride HOF broadcaster Nick for 5 seasons and then transition to somebody new? We had and still have a sure thing on the roster but didn't take advantage of it because of an attempt to get younger in the broadcast booth.

Bob and Pete Weber were just before my time as a Kings fan, which was around '83-'84.
