As expected, Alexander Ovechkin remains in DC with a five-year 47.5 million dollar extension, but surprisingly Vegas trades Marc-Andre Fleury to ChiTown, which apparently also surprised Fleury, who may not go.

Meanwhile, Vladimir Tarasenko remains in Missouri, for the time being. Most LGK posters here seem to feel a trade for Tank would be a mistake, but I still say Blake should go for it. So does this guy, and it's hard to argue with his logic:

Kings Should Have Tarasenko as a Top Trade Target

Kind of ****y a Vegas not to let Marc-Andre Fleury finish out his career there. I can't believe they went with Robin lehner over a proven Cup winner. I don't think Vegas can win it with Robin.

I'd be ok with adding Tarasenko at the right cost. That writers lineup did not include Kempe or Byfield?

My preferences would be:
1. Landeskog
2. Forsberg
3. Monahan
4. Tarasenko
6. DeBrusk/Bertuzzi

Anything that causes Vegas consternation is ok by me. F 'em.

I still say you push all the chips (except Byfield) to the center of the table for Landeskog. I still think he ends up in Colorado or even Vegas (if they can fit him under the cap...they just cleared $7MM out)

But my guess is, we don't get any of these guys but get another "he's ok but not a star" player.

Real class act, eh? Makes you want to hate Vegas even more, as if that were possible. Even the way they dumped Gallant was bizarre. He was more surprised than anyone.

?Usually you have an idea. You can feel something. But I didn?t have that. Maybe that was my own stupidity, I don?t know. I never felt like anything like that was going to happen.?

-Gerard Gallant to the Las Vegas Review-Journal after he was fired.

This seems to be a trend for Vegas...talk about creating bad karma. As santiclaws stated in another thread, just look at the way they dumped Haula...he got to the practice facility and his access card didn't work. Surprise! You've been fired! Hit the road Jack!

Wow.

Hopefully this comes back and bites Vegas in the ass one day.

Hmmm. I'm going the other way. Ruthless GM move. Wonder what McCrimmon would have done in 2017 if he were the GM of the Kings instead of whatshisname?

So Landeskog apparently offered $7mm/7 years. Would you offer $8/7 if you were the Kings?

I would. Just do what everyone else does when he's worn out - send him to Arizona with a draft pick or two. I don't see the problem.

I would. But if he doesn't return to the Avs I bet the AAV will need to be $9M.

Well, they didn't win with Fleury and they had 2 shots at it with him.
Save $, re sign Alec, go after someone else. All with Fleury $
It's a tough world and nothing is guaranteed.

Very possible that he's willing to take a hometown discount. Would you take him at $9MM? Read on twitter, for what it's worth, that the Kings are not on his list of desirable destinations.

Yeah, nobody good is going to want to come to LA and miss the playoffs. Instead, stay in Colorado or go to another team making moves to improve.

There's a bit of a chicken and egg here and I feel like Blake hasn't figured out:
1. Breaking in the prospects is much easier when they are playing with proven veterans.
2. Many FA want to win as well as get paid. So some are not going to sign in LA or San Jose or Buffalo without a big overpayment.

St Louis is going to move Tank so make a move for him already. Just freaking do it already.

Also, if the Vezina trophy winner getting traded for a body / contract (and Vegas has told the guy to just keep playing in the Hawks minor league system) doesn't show the value of cap space, then nothing will.

And this leads me to believe that the Kings are not going to be players in the UFA market but will instead acquire via trade.

Sakic went to school on the Yzerman - Stamkos showdown. If Landeskog wants to stay in Colorado, it will be at Sakic's price. Besides, Landeskog might be their 5th or 6th best player. (Mackinnon, Rantonen, Makar, Girard, Toews)

I'm a total pass on Landeskog. I doubt he remains a 1st line player for half the contract he signs.

Rumours all over that Landeskog is re-signing, Danault to Vegas, Suter to Dallas. Get ready for our dive back into the dumpster!! Paging 2021’s Randy Robitaille…

I can't imagine that bothers anyone. Other than maybe Landeskog, who the hell cares? I just think the UFA thing is WAY overrated. It makes a splash with the fan-base at first I guess...the next thing you know fans are whining that the contract is an albatross.

To me the Kings should just find the players they need through trade or grow your own.
