Personnel, or Management Issues?

Super Star
This team is in a funk for sure. Needed to vent a bit and well..... here is a bit of a rant

Things that are concerning, or questions in my mind.

- Why does this team not have any "fight" in it. They lack urgency, cohesiveness and they are Charmin soft. Turcotte has been one of the better forwards as he has jump and seems to be playing with a sense of urgency. For the most part, the rest of the team are just playing some really ugly hockey.
- There is a bit of hate for Hiller, understandably. How long is his leash? With the makeup of this team how much could a new coach really make an impact? They have less skill on the backend than last year's team. I guess a new coach for the most part can just light a fire under their backsides and hopefully make better on and off ice decisions.
- If the Kings get just average goaltending this year I think that they will be playing golf early. Over the last few seasons their goaltending in the regular season has been pretty darn good. Looks like a train wreck so far this year.
- What on earth is the management of this team doing? Hiller keeps shortening the bench, just like last year.
- Why did we lose Gavy? Did he want out of LA? Or was it simply $ and term? From some of the reporting, it sounds like the Kings knew they were not going to be able to sign him and they tried to pull off a sign and trade with the Rangers (like what happened with Marner).
- Why has Kempe not signed already? I guess that this could happen at any time, but we are 5 games into the season. Many other similar players have already signed.

One of the big head scratchers for many this off season was the signing of Ceci.

I get that you need size on D, but the Kings already had that. Spence may have lost some battles down low, or in front of the net due to his size and reach. It did not happen often and I never saw him try to catch a wrist shot from the point while skating away from the forward who was camped out in the crease. What have the Kings really gained/lost here?

I will also add that in the big picture, this is just 5 games. So, Kings could easily turn it around. For some though, the thinking going into the season was that the Kings took a step back. That being said, this ship needs to be "righted" and it can be. The question is, can it be fully "righted" and be put on a course set for the playoffs and beyond?

the management brought in the personnel. So its both.

Like I have said when Blake was GM, we should not be the ones who know wrong or right better, when bringing players in. Once again its We Told You So. Everyone from President to GM to Coach is at fault.

They make terrible decision after terrible decision.

It's both, but mostly personnel in my opinion.

Centers! Kopi is a second line center right now at best. Still good and didn't have to retire just yet, but he isn't the ideal first line. Danault just seems to have lost more of his mojo. And Byefield hasn't developed into the top 2 center we want him to be.

D-men. Yeah, this speaks for itself.

Our goaltending is iffy too.

Sigh.

At least the Dodgers are doing stuff. Too bad, I don't follow baseball, lol. But this L.A. native is Dodgers adjacent, so go L.A. :mhihi: :cheers

Trevor Moore seems like he cares. His line with Foegle (& the previously mentioned Turcotte) were the best line last night.

Something is either wrong with Kempe or he wants out. I think he touched the puck 3, maybe 4 times in the whole game on Thursday? (I may be under-exaggerating....I was high on allergy meds)

I've seen beer league teams with better coordination out there (mostly all the teams who beat mine on a consistent basis....). Everyone seems to be in their own little bubble, and none of their little bubbles are floating in the same direction.

I really think Kempe needs either Byfield or Turcotte as his center at this point and Turcotte needs to get significantly more minutes. With Kopi and Kuz, Kempe just isn't able to properly use his speed. Kempe has been playing well off the puck, however, it's just not the type of play that typically gets him noticed.

Danault has been pretty invisible but despite it very few goals go in against the team while he is on the ice. He just doesn't seem to be the offensive threat he once was.

Doughty has been less visible than normal but is off to one of his best seasons in quite awhile.

Ceci, Foegle Laf and our goaltending as a whole have been pretty disappointing thus far.

Hiller should be shot into the sun. I'm tired of him learning on the fly.

Kings sent me an offer for a Kopi ticket deal-- 2 for $111 in the 100s and 200s. It was tempting but I think I'd rather go out for a good meal and just watch the game at home (and can flip it off if they are sucking).

It started with Blake and his vague “plan.” Blake’s plan was like the opposite of Dean’s. Dean wouldn’t have let Faber go for a winger. A center, for sure. But not a winger which was the last of DL’s priorities.

Blake had no vision for his blueline, which you would think, as a former defenseman, he would. He sat on all those righties for so long and misused them as players and assets pretty much all the way through. Hanging onto Clarke as the last one doesn’t deserve any credit.

It’s management.

And Holland didn’t do a thing to put the blueline on the right track. I have not checked on the Carolina game at all… which is not a surprise since I wasn’t thrilled going into this season, resulting in more time spent reading LGK than watching any games with this roster he compiled.

Blake didn't have a plan, Blake was given a plan and when it was clear as day it won't ever work, he IMO quite successfuly carried out a retool.

The problem was that the old core that was supposed to carry this team just wasn't that good anymore, especially Quick, who was instrumental to Kings' Cup wins, which in turn led to Peterson debacle.

Faber for Fiala trade was a good hockey trade, the Kings lacked an offensively talented winger at that time and Wild wanted Faber who wasn't 100% sure to sign with the Kings (and who now doesn't look like a top 2 D-man for the 2nd season in a row).

The biggest issue was then the PLD trade which derailed the rest of Rob's tenure and led to Holland, who is - for now - looking like a downgrade compared to Rob. Not looking good..

But the underlying issue is ownership and upper management, as they seem more than happy with being a perennial 1st round exiters.

Thank you for a rational explanation.

The coach is the glaring problem, and his retention is an indictment of management. Until Hiller is gone, there will be no progress.
The ice time distribution is unacceptable after this roster was altered to address Hiller’s confidence issues specifically. And being as forgiving of early games as I am it looks like this team has quit on him already, though I’d imagine that actually happened in May after he tanked round 1 for them.

Personnel due to bad management , which lands at Robitailles feet
