It was bound to happen sooner or later, and it finally did on Saturday afternoon; the Kings lost their first preseason game of the month.
Kern County was hosting their first NHL exhibition game in a decade — although they usually get their fill of AHL action, as the building serves as the Bakersfield Condors home, an affiliate of the Oilers.
With a mix of prospects and veterans suited up on both sides, the game was tied 3-3 with 1:26 left, when Kings forward Sammy Helenius was whistled for a delay of game penalty for shooting the puck over the glass. On the ensuing power play, Anaheim converted and then later added an empty net goal.

— Helenius and defenseman Kyle Burroughs have now skated in all four preseason games.
— Liam Greentree assisted on the first goal, he now has points in all three preseason games he’s skated in.
— The Kings posted 20 shots on goal in the first period.
— LA had leads of 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 before eventually giving up the tying (and winning) goal last in period three.
The Kings went 0-for-6 on the power play.
— Sunday will be an off day for the Kings, with practice set to resume at 10:30am on Monday at Toyota Sports Performance Center
