With a win in Utah on Monday night, the Kings remain perfect against the Mammoth — and the moms have run their record to 2-0 this week.
Building on their offensive explosion last time out against Chicago, forwards Adrian Kempe and Joel Armia gave coach Jim Hiller’s squad a 2-0 lead in the opening frame of action. Kevin Fiala earned the lone assists on both goals, showcasing his creativity in the process.
Dylan Guenther gave the home faithful some hope during the middle frame by scoring his 11th goal of the season.
Once the third period began, it was time for Kings captain Anze Kopitar to get in on the fun. While it wasn’t a highlight reel goal — but rather the result of a broken play — they all count the same, and he’ll take it.
With less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation, Clayton Keller once again brought the Mammoth within one goal of tying things up. Then with their net empty, Armia shot the puck in for his second goal of the night and finished off the scoring in LA’s 4-2 victory.
Darcy Kuemper made 19 saves in goal and helped run the Kings record to a perfect 4-0-0 vs. the Mammoth in their brief NHL history as a franchise.
Other Notes and Takeaways:
— LA’s struggles in the faceoff circle continued, with the Kings only winning 23-of-57 draws (40%).
— With his 39th career game-opening goal, Kempe tied Butch Goring and Ziggy Palffy for the sixth most in Kings history, per NHL PR.
— Since being acquired by the Kings on June 29, 2022, Fiala has notched 32 multi-point games on the road, which is tied with Kempe for the most by any LA skater in that span.
— Defenseman Cody Ceci played in his 900th career game this evening, joining fellow Canadian blueliner Morgan Rielly as the first two members of the 2012 NHL Draft class to reach this milestone. Ceci is the first defenseman to play his 900th career game in an LA Kings uniform since Drew Doughty did so on Jan. 14, 2020, in Tampa Bay.
