With a 2-1 overtime victory on Sunday night at Toyota Arena, Ontario swept their weekend series vs. Calgary and pushed their record to 7-3-0 over the past 10 games. Perhaps even more interesting is the variety in which they’re earning points.
Many coaches are curious to see how their team responds after an offensive explosion like the Reign experienced on Saturday night. Coming less than 24 hours after putting up six goals against the visiting Wranglers, coach Andrew Lord saw his team fall behind 1-0 in the second period of Sunday’s matinee.
No problem, though. Andre Lee was rather quick to enter the conversation. Less than four minutes later he notched his eighth goal of the season — tying his AHL career high from two years ago. Even though it’s only early December, Lee is already having a breakout campaign offensively and remains red hot. The 6-foot-5 forward has now found the net in back-to-back games and has goals in three of Ontario’s last four contests. His 17 points (9G, 8A) also leads all Reign players.
Team captain Joe Hicketts scored the overtime winner just past the halfway point of the extra session, pushing Ontario’s record to 4-1 in OT this season. In one-score games, the Reign hold a 7-2-1 record overall, so tight games don’t seem to bother Lord’s squad.
Andrew Lord when asked if any line combinations stood out to him: “Connors, his line was excellent. They were back to it this weekend. Both games, they were very good. Playing to their identity, hard to play against.”
More praise for the Lee-Connors-Wright line. #GoKingsGo
