After signing with the Ontario Reign last summer, it’s been a long and winding road for goaltender Isaiah Saville. It’s a journey that’s included extended time with ECHL Greenville and as a backup to Pheonix Copley. With the latter now up in the show, Saville stepped in for coach Andrew Lord on Wednesday night and delivered the team’s first shutout of the season.

Kings prospect Martin Chromiak powered the Reign offense, supplying a pair of goals in the team’s 4-0 victory over the host Bakersfield Condors. He opened the scoring with a power-play goal late in the first period, and then added an even-strength marker earlier in the second frame. Andre Lee continued his strong season, scoring to make it 3-0 — and posting his team-leading 20th point.

Andrew Lord on Isaiah Saville tonight: “I can’t speak more highly of that guy. Awesome person, phenomenal teammate, his approach every day, just a low maintenance guy. He gives his best effort through and through, very coachable, and it shows.”

Martin Chromiak on his late-season turnaround last year translating to this season: “I think just growing with every game, I think I still have a lot to learn. I wasn’t very happy with my game the last couple weeks. I’m really happy that today was also a bounce back game for me.”…

Isaiah Saville on the goalie situation in Los Angeles: “You just kind of try and stay ready. The goaltending position, it’s a roller coaster, right. So, a lot of things happen at different levels, and you kind of just have to go with it.” #GoKingsGo #ReignTrain

Other Game Notes

— Ontario finished off their offensive attack with a goal from rookie defenseman Kirill Kirsanov, who just returned to the lineup after missing three games for the birth of his first child.

— Ontario has won four of their last five contests — with the only blemish over that stretch being a loss in Colorado on the second night of a back-to-back set. Over their past 10 games, the Reign are 8-2-0 and sit second in the Pacific Division, two points back of the Eagles.

— The Reign head home to Toyota Arena now for a pair of games this weekend, including Saturday’s annual Teddy Bear Toss event.
