Resigning Scott Laughton

Nodoughtyboutit

4th Line Grinder
I'm really loving his game and fit with the team. I know hes a FA in the off-season and will be looking for a deal. I was wondering what you all would be willing to give and what you think he ends up getting...

My first thought was maybe 3 years x 4 mil or something in that range...

Cheers

That’s probably what it would take to keep Laughton. It’s probably a fair price but I don’t know the cap space is there for even that amount unless other moves were made.
A third-line Center is much needed. But so is at least one defenseman, a #1/2 Center, and accomplishing those moves won’t happen without shedding some assets.
Laughton is the kind of player the Kings really need. He’s been very, very good.

Salary Cap is going up significantly, I believe, so probably can make room for him. I'd assume he's pretty happy here as well since he's been getting a lot of ice time and playing really well. Plus, he got #1 star last night!!

While the cap IS increasing significantly, so are the actual salaries of the Kings players.
We have the added cap space plus Kopitar’s salary. But we also have Kempe’s new contract, Panarin’s contract, and there really isn’t much more space left (unless I’m misreading it).
That’s the problem I see for the roster moving forward.

We have to re-sign Clarke, too.

What would be the cap hit resulting from buying out Doughty? The other option is a trade with $$$ retained. Either way, he needs to go. Drew has proven his unsuitability at 1D. Ask him if he will accept a lesser role. When he declines then he must go. At $11 million, he is hurting the entire organization.

I really don't think the FO approves this.

The only way I could see it happening is if there is some team desperate enough to trade for him significant assets (meaning more than some measly 3rd rounder or sth. like that) with almost half of his salary retained.

Too bad the Loafs completely derailed themselves, I always hoped that could be the dignified end route for both parties involved.
