The Pacific Division Thread

I admit, I have always been critical of Marner's play in big games. This playoff season he has been a beast. He is on a better team so that definitely helps. He can do more things playing on a team like Vegas than he could in Toronto. He seems like he is just one of the guys.

Really shows how that inept the organization of Toronto is. Worse than even Edmonton and that's saying a lot because we all know how poorly run Toronto's been since they won their last Cup.

Serves them right. They've found a way to game the system no other team does. Let them get clapped for it.
They won't lose a pick. They'll appeal and Bettman will restore the pick (maybe make it end of 2nd round but that's moving back 3 spots at worse) as long as Torts is on good behavior the rest of the playoffs.

Tortorella is all in for the cup.
His push for 2 more rounds tactic, stick up for the players and build an US against the league mantra.
He's actually one of the main reasons I wouldn't mind seeing Vegas take the Cup this year.

Also a 2nd round / $100k penalty seems pretty steep in a league that allows players to intentionally injure another and only suspends that player for 1 game in return. Granted it's Organization vs Player conduct, but the NHL really needs to get their sh*t together and develop a consistent playbook. It's clearly all about the money.

They will gladly pay it if it takes them to another cup.
Colo is a tough out however.
I hate Vegas and the way they were practically gifted a cup when they made entry too gifted.
For me , might as well be Colorado.
It just makes the Kings look better and DJ with every round.
Especially when Hughes and Wild could only win one game.

lol.
I don’t mind this at all. The reason for the actual penalty is somewhat ridiculous in my opinion, but this team has unscrupulously circumvented the cap for playoffs several times in its short existence, so the loss of a 2nd round pick is karmic justice.

Vegas is being petty with Cassidy, but on the flip side, he'll eventually land a solid coaching gig, and I for one, haha, can appreciate getting paid for a season while hanging out at home doing two kinds of goofing off at any given moment. :mhihi: :cheers

Well, it turns out just now that VGK lost its appeal to reverse their punishment. The NHL decided to uphold the decision to strip away VGK's 2026 second-round draft pick and slap Torts with a $100k fine. Good for them, as it couldn't have happened to a better team; they truly deserve it.

Unfortunately this doesn’t move the Kings up in Round 2 but it’s still a good outcome for us.

Kings pick 17, 46, 60 in Rounds 1 & 2.

Word is Vegas told teams and Cassidy that they put a hold on any discussions until after the playoffs. They want to focus on the task at hand.

Vegas looked scary in Game 1. If Makar has a lingering injury the Avs could be in serious trouble.
I think we'll have a lot better take on where these series are headed after game 2 (in both cases). Carolina looked beyond rusty in the first period, and Montreal exploited that ruthlessly. Yes, if Makar is unable to go, that series shifts in Vegas' favor.

Which is more Vegas nonsense. Cassidy talking to other teams does little to nothing to take the team's focus off advancing and winning the Cup this season.
Probably, but do you remember the last time a coach was fired that close to the end of the season when the team makes the playoffs? I do not.

Fact of the matter is, Vegas said no talks while we are in the playoffs. :noidea:
