The Pacific Division Thread

In the 1st round I was rooting for the Kings over the Avs (of course). In the 2nd round I was rooting for the Wild. Now in this round when I'm finally rooting for the Avs they're down 0-3 & will probably lose. I hope either Carolina or Montreal comes through.

Two more years of mediocrity and then the Kings will start to change. The Kings should have at least three years of decent draft picks if they (Holland) don't screw things up these next two seasons. I will still watch most every game to see what young kids are NHL ready. I am hoping that at least two young players surprise us next season and take the next step and then two more and two more the following years.

I am OK being a bottom dweller for three seasons. Year four, they better make a stride and at least compete for a playoff spot. Year five, they better in the playoffs with a chance to win a series. Year six, they better make it to the conference final. Year 7 rebuild, again!

So 2047ish? Cable in the afterlife?

Nowadays I'm waiting for a car manufacturer to be the first one to offer subscription based airbags in a car. So the logical conclusion is it's only a question of when will they start selling you post-mortem subscription services, not if. 🤪

So they'll put your brain in a jar and connect wires to it. You'll have all the streaming you'll want, for a monthly fee of measly 10 bucks.

The only issue is you won't be able to switch channels OR turn it off. So...it would be highly risky to choose Kings hockey!

Bruce Cassidy Calls Out Golden Knights for Blocking Interviews for New NHL HC Job After March Firing

Per B/R,Former Vegas Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy called out the team for blocking his interviews regarding new coaching roles.

"It's upsetting, I'm going to be honest," Cassidy said during a Thursday appearance on the Spittin' Chiclets podcast (h/t Jesse Granger (Bruce Cassidy upset about Golden Knights blocking interviews: ‘I want to go to work’) of The Athletic). "Because once you're fired, your contract is basically terminated."

This is absolutely false, however. When fired the coach still gets paid as the contract is fully guaranteed. If the Organization continues to pay them, they are technically under contract.

In the NHL coaches are never technically "fired" they are "relieved of duties". Like many high level jobs, NHL Head Coaches have a no-compete clause in their contracts.

It would be financially advantageous to the Knights for Cassidy to find a HC job with another team, however, but it is ultimately the Knights' choice whether to open that door or not.

It’s interesting that non-competes are un-enforceable in California. I wonder how the California teams get around that.

Because there's no prohibition against a non-compete which prevents you from working for a competitor while still under contract with your current employer. The law only applies to contracts preventing you from working for a competitor after your employment ends.

I don't know too much about him, but would you take him over Lord? Both, I believe, are untested as the NHL level.

Carle has 3 NCAA championships and 2 World Junior championships in recent years. His resumé far outshines Lord in that respect. Getting him to come to LA would be a big step in the right direction.
