The 38-year-old forward who was an unrestricted free agent announced on Twitter that his playing career was over. "From the time I was 4 until 38 hockey has been my life and best friend," Thompson said. Thompson did not play in the NHL last season after the Los Angeles Kings released him from a professional tryout contract in training camp.
