I thought TM was a good guy, but not the coach to put us over the top.

Wings have a team composition that should do well under McLellan's style. I expect to see an initial lift long enough for Todd to get his contract extended and then be a pretty mid team thereafter (good enough to not get high draft picks but not good enough to do anything come playoff time). It should be a step forward for them, though.

The Wings have done nothing in years. If TM gets them into the playoffs in the next couple of years, like he did for the Kings, it will be a great feat. TM took the Kings as far as they could with the players that Kings management drafted, traded for and or acquired on the team. It’s my expert opinion, that the Kings overachieved by making the playoffs during TM’s tenure. I like Jim Hiller but his signing is not going to get the Kings past the Oilers in the playoffs.

I think T Mac is a good coach, but will only take you so far. Happy for him that he has turned things around in Detroit.

Detroit may be a dark horse but their roster composition is really solid. Big question is can Lyon continue to play like he has over this stretch. That said, Todd is a very good coach but tends to get tuned out pretty quickly. I think if Detroit is going to win it all with Todd as the coach, they have roughly 2 seasons to do so. This season is probably his best chance.
