Sunday afternoon’s Empire Classic was officially a Kings game, yet it felt like a Reign game of days gone by. Over half the roster utilized by coach Jim Hiller had spent time in Ontario, and they shined brightly throughout the contest.
LA’s opening goal came off the stick of Alex Turcotte, via a pass from defenseman Brandt Clarke — two guys who played 126 and 55 AHL games respectively.
Later, Turcotte picked up a second point, setting up Alex Laferriere for a shorthanded goal. This put the Kings up 2-1 and gave them their first lead of the afternoon. For good measure, Andre Lee (153 games with the Reign) added a shorthanded goal to cap things off.
