As much as I'd love to see him, I don't know how you evaluate that shoulder

That shoulder is scary. But this might be a gamble worth taking if the price is right and STL is forced into a firesale.

The shoulder is definitely a question mark. That said, according to the article, the third surgery by outside doctors fixed the ligament damage issue which was missed by team doctors the first two times he was operated on, which is a big part of the reason he is pissed off. He would have to come cheap to even think about it.

For a couple of 3rds, this year and next. You take the chance. Maybe the later 2nd we hold from this year.

My guess is that asking price will be much higher than that. If that were all it actually took, sure, why not.

Tarasenko's NTC and 15 Million dollars in guaranteed salary over the next two seasons means the return will be pretty bad. The Kings make perfect sense as trading partner. Blake has the cap space, the need and the assets.

If I'm Blake I use my prospect log jam at Center plus a soon to age out D-man to get Tarasenko. Just spit ballin here but maybe something around Tyler Madden and Sean Durzi.

Really the return depends on how badly the Blues want to free up 7.5M in cap space for the next two seasons.

If they're going to want something more, it'll take them retaining a good chunk of his salary. He has a list of a few teams he's willing to be traded to and from what I've read, he's been on the block for a while and there has been zero interest from other GMs. Two thirds may be more than what's been offered, if anything at all has been offered.

Or the Kings could use their cap space to facilitate a trade to a team that can't afford VT. Eat 2x$3.7M for a couple of 2nd round picks.

Oh right, Maatta is using that space this year.

It's so easy to throw away when it's somebody else's money, isn't it?

refresh my memory.... how much cap space do we have right now?

$14.6m with AA and Moore left to resign.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the cap. The Kings can just follow Tampa Bay's model. Tarasenko is well suited to play the Kucherov role.

Don't forget this fun detail:

ESTIMATED SALARY EXPENDITURE $56,945,861

The article by The Hockey Writers suggested it could get done for Tyler Madden and a 2021 2nd and a 2022 2nd.
I'd say change one of those picks to a 3rd and I'd do it.
That would still leave a lot of assets to get a LD or resign Marty. All needs filled.

Doesn't sound like there is a ton of urgency or maybe even desire? to sign AA. We'll see what happens after the draft.

As there shouldn't be. He's not a particularly important player. If the Kings can get him back on a short term moderate value contract, great. Otherwise wouldn't mind seeing him continue his effort to play for every team in the league.

I get the same feeling but really hope the Kings end up extending him. For a team looking for more goal scoring it would be odd to give up on AA unless there is something going on behind the scenes (attitude issues etc).

I haven't heard anything about attitude, just that the guy kinda faded away as the season went on...but so did many of the Kings.
