We were right there

In another post I said Coyle would be a good fit between Laf and Brady if that trade worked out. Now we’re getting into a lot of ifs!

I appreciate the background. Doesn’t sound like a Fiala fit for speed. Fair points. And if he wants to stay in CLB good for them. I think we all have a soft spot for the Blue Jackets. And if not you should ha.

Signing Laughton needs to be a priority regardless and his payday shouldn’t interfere with a second line center’s payday. One of Moore or Fiala will be moved, one of Edmundson or Dumo will be moved, and I’m confident one of the goalies will be moved.
Coyle extended in Columbus this morning with a 6x6 deal. He got paid!

The Kings will have to overpay Laughton and they aren't going to sign a 2C. It's going to be another season trying to make the playoffs in the final week.

That’s some money but moreso some serious term for a 34 year old. Wowee.

Kings need a 2C, 3C and a top 4 puck moving LD minimum. Laughton checks his box. I have no idea how LD is being solved. 2C is for sure the hardest box to check.

It’s why we all want a retool at minimum but will be watching for magic rabbits the next couple months.

Seems to me the only answer for the lack of free agents that every team will be facing this offseason is to trade for the flawed players on barely tolerable contracts. That’s where the big player movement is going to be found this summer. It’s the perfect storm of weak free agency class, tons of cap space and more competitive teams than ever.

I get the feeling Elias Pettersson and Darnell Nurse will be Kings next season.

I really hope you are wrong about Nurse. The fact he has attempted, and sometimes succeeded, to injure Kings players multiple times during the playoffs is just a no.

If we are going for that type of player then it may be time to move on from the Kings.

The Holland connection combined with the need for the Oilers to really shake things up gives me this sense that a deal can be made. I don’t like it but Holland will not be sitting on his hands this summer.

Had to check the time of your post because I thought it was a happy hour banter.
According to the interwebz:

During the 1990 NHL Playoffs, the Los Angeles Kings famously adopted fluorescent green hats as a rallying point during their Smythe Division semifinal series against the Calgary Flames. [1]

The "Rally Cap" Story
  • The Catalyst: In April 1990, while trailing the defending champion Flames in the series, the team turned to neon green baseball caps as a superstition or "rallying point".
  • The Result: The superstition appeared to work immediately. On April 10, 1990, the Kings dominated the Flames with a 12-4 victory at the Great Western Forum.
  • Historic Performance: During that specific game, three different Kings players—Dave Taylor, Tomas Sandstrom, and Tony Granato—each scored a hat trick, setting an NHL record for the most hat tricks by one team in a single playoff game. [1, 2]

If any interweb sleuth can find a pic that would be crazy because I cant' find one.

I think Ken has been roasted to the point of the Oilers not winning a cup, about the nurse trade , on hockey boards.
I doubt he would take a razor blade to his biggest scar in a 157 year career.
Elias does not seem like the Holland type to me. I was worried about Holland overshooting on moves with his window here.
However his comments and moves have made me stop looking for it to happen. But I keep the thoughts in reach.

That's a HEFTY contract. Like, girth AND length. Wowzers. They really are desperate...

Oh well. If that was what it took to sign him, I'm glad Ken didn't even have the opportunity to offer him a contract.

On to Laughton sweepstakes. 2-3@5 sounds very reasonable now...come on, Scotty!

Also, #2C was never on the cards in UFA market this season. It was always going to be a trade. Coyle IMO isn't a #2C either, really, and banking he keeps up his production from this season at 35yo is quite foolish...

I can’t see both on the roster. That’s real money. There may be room for one worst contract in the league, but not two. Or, perhaps not three depending on how you see Doughty.

Found it!!!!
Where you ask? Where else: The King's Slap Shop of course!
This pic is incredible. Back in the early 90's I was trying to get a hat from every team and the Slap Shop was pretty much the only option. On the left side, I bought 9 of those hats, and I still have them all. The Montreal hat was signed by Roy at Disneyland after they beat us in 93.
