Welp - I guess we're all Colorado fans now

My loathing of other teams in the NHL has largely dissipated over the years. I don't mind one bit that Vegas is in the Finals, and have no issues with them winning the Cup. Of the teams remaining, my preference would be for Vegas to win it, but my day wouldn't be ruined if either the Canes or Habs won the Cup. I knew the Kings had no shot for about the past decade, so watching other teams win the Cup has been enjoyable.
Same. The older I get the less I care about old rivalries. I'll have a rooting interest in each series just to pick a side but in the end it just doesn't matter.

Well he out-coahced DJ and was out-coached by Torts so...
Yeah, true. I still think, among the reported candidates, that none of them really intrigue me. I think Bednar might have the ability to create some kind of positive influence. But whoever the coach who gets the job, I will like them if they win and won’t if they don’t. Simple as that.
But, the more important decisions are for Holland getting this roster sorted out. There are some glaring holes, a couple players who need to get replaced, and those moves will determine whether any coach can succeed.

Sorry, but as a Kings fan, I still have long memories of 1993. So, no way am I ever cheering for Montreal. Or Vegass unless they're pitted against an equally unlikable EC team in the Cup Finals (Toronto, Montreal, NYR, and, yes, NYI).

Where I land except I hate Edmonton. And I enjoy hating them. Otherwise I can find something to root for in every team, and some more than others. I love hockey and seeing good storylines is always fun.

I'm of the opinion that with multiple, what I would consider, better options to DJ the Kings are truly phoning it in if they bring him back as HC. There really is no excuse for it this offseason.

To you point, we also need to clear out a few roster players, hopefully grab and upgrade or two and make room for players like Booth who are ready for their shot.

Perfectly put. Sure the players responded to DJ but what, they skated and hit like an actual NHL team? So they did the bare minimum?

I did not exaggerate a few months ago when I said Hiller was the worst thing to happen to team in the last 10 years, or whatever timeline I gave it. Funny, on a recent ATKM episode Jim Fox said the players lost their passion for playing hockey under Hiller. When Fox says that…

DJ was part of the staff and if you’re turning the page then turn the page. Why I really don’t want Laviolette but I swear retaining DJ would be even worse. Send a message to the team they are moving forward, not building on last season because last season is nothing to build on. Gotta rethink things.

It’s been an interesting realization that I’ve come to in recent years, as well, that I no longer have the same hate in my heart for rival nhl teams that I once did. I cannot say the same for some of the underachievers on our roster, however. The disdain there has never been stronger.

But if Ken only manages to overpay for a UFA 3rd line center and stands pat with the rest of the roster then any coach upgrade would be a total waste if that coach would be actually better than DJ as it would just result in a lower drafting position...

A coaching overhaul requires a roster overhaul of some sort, too. 2 middle 6 forwards (1 of which should be a capable #2C, preferably with some upside) and a top 4 D need to be acquired.

Do we trust Ken will do that? Based on his pressers I don't.

Ideally we should do both. I think the most important thing is to upgrade the roster. But if that's not possible then at least we should upgrade the coach.

Why don’t you trust him to make changes based on his presser? Last year he came in talking about what a great team it was and then he traded Spence and added five players.

This year he’s said he’s not happy, both special teams are among last in the league, team needs more offense, and he’s been non-committal about Doughty. When asked about lack of offense on D being attributable to system or roster, he said a bit of both.

Now if he can’t pull off any real moves we’ll all be right to criticize his lack of creativity and Blake for depleting the asset pool. But criticisms over a couple generic hockey pressers are pretty overblown. He’s clearly not calling out players individually. Not everyone can be Dean Lombardi.

“El Cid Lounge. Baby fat. Terrible hockey player. Bad diet. Bad conditioning. I had to read War and Peace to try and understand him.”

Great memories. Characters like that are rare in a front office.

The last page of posts are the most LGK posts of the off-season. Why would we get a new coach if we're not going to give him new players to upgrade the team? Why would we upgrade the team if we don't have a new coach to help them reach their full potential?

(((if it helps I tried to find a picture of Lombardi with his feet on the desk just to see if the site would collapse in on itself. fail))))

I was not advocating for DJ btw. But do agree he isn’t really the guy who I would hire.

I don't believe there is a need for a Cassidy at this point if the Kings are stuck for the next two seasons.
I keep hearing that Cassidy will be the highest paid NHL Coach once he is hired. Hard to imagine getting fired right before the playoffs, his old team in the Finals (or winning the Cup) and his reputation doesn’t take a hit? Seems really odd.
