Pretty much the same things we were saying last week at the end of our roadie.

Clearly the Oilers want to drop down to 4th so they can take out Vegas in rd 1 and then eliiminate us in Rd 2 instead of Rd 1 this season to shake things up.

No jinxing Susan!!! No no no😂

My nightmare: playing the Oilers AGAIN in the first round.

My Dream: beating the crap out of the Oilers in the 1st round and watching McDavid wipe a slow dripping tear off his cheek in the handshake line.

Both could happen. One or even both teams could also catch Vegas, though that seems unlikely.

Even if the Kings were to beat them in the 1st round it won’t even feel satisfying. The Oilers are losers. They haven’t won anything except kicking our ass every year. It’s pretty pathetic for both teams honestly.

I'd be happy as it means the Kings would finally be taking a step forward by getting to the 2nd round.

I'm not a fan of the Oilers but I really do not have anything against them as an Organization. They have set a bar the last few years which the Kings have been unable to rise to/overcome. Gotta respect their Organization's desire to win.

That bar is quite high, when you consider the Oilers have lost to the eventual champion in each of the past three years. One could say they've been the best team in the league the past three years that hasn't won the Cup. The Kings just don't match up well with them, and that's also true for most other teams.

Much like in the years leading up to the Kings Cup wins, there are teams that are in the way that the Kings needed to learn to beat, or better yet, the Kings needed to learn how to win.
This current version of the Kings is in that same place. They haven’t learned how to beat the Oilers. It’s the mental toughness and it’s the belief that they are good enough.

The Kings had put themselves in position to win the last two series. Up 3-0 in a game that could have put them up 3-1 in the series two years ago, or last year in the series that was 1-1 and the Kings didn’t even show up in Game 3 at home.

The Kings need a playoff round win. It’s as much (or more) mental than ability or talent.

I think about this a lot these last few years. I distinctly remember needing to learn that they could beat those stacked Shark and Blackhawk teams that we kept running into. For three years in a row we became the heavyweights along with Chicago.

At this point the Oilers are in the organization's (and fans) head and they need to find a way to will themselves past them or we're stuck in the quagmire and going nowhere. The coaching intangible seemed to help them in that era, and I've wondered this time what the answer is to that particular riddle with these recent teams. We'll likely see in a few weeks how Hiller fares at the task.

I don’t respect the Oilers. They got 4 1st overall draft picks in 6 years and they act like they accomplished something. What did they do to get those picks except suck & then have ping pong balls go their way? And what did they do with those picks? It took all 4 tries to get an actual great player. And so far they haven’t won anything. Meanwhile the team, the fans, & the media act like they can do no wrong & if something goes against them, somehow the league has plotted against them.

Your statement puzzles me a bit. Didn't the Oilers almost battle back from a 0-3 deficit in the Stanley Cup Finals last season? It was a helluva series with great hockey on display throughout.

I have to agree with you on this - both the Oilers and Blackhawks have been gifted a lot of high end picks. Teams like the Kings, however, have only had a handful of 2nd overall picks (I believe 3 but would have to verify) and have never had a 1st overall.

Pittsburgh was gifted a 1st overall which led to picking up Crosby and what did they do? Just go on to build a team around him (and 2nd overall Malkin) and proceed to win multiple championships.

Oilers really have no excuse. With all of those 1st overalls alone though should have hoisted the Cup at least once by now.

That’s great. Maybe they should hang a banner for being so close.

Sure it would be nice to finally beat the Oilers after 4 attempts. But the way they’ve beaten and at times embarrassed the Kings 3 years in a row won’t be washed away with a single 1st round playoff win.

🫤 Huh, I always considered you one of the more level-headed posters here.

Did they? I stopped watching when they went to the finals.

Just kidding, but I have selectively blocked out everything except them losing in game 7.
