Draft day- Back in business (Da joint)

So, it's draft day and the Kings have no (real) skin in the game. Fine. Blake could get shrewd, he could also bore us to tears. Again fine. I've got my eye on a couple teams (*cough* Calgary) today. Hope it's fun.

Walker, Roy, Iafallo, Doughty*, Petersen, Villardi will you be here tomorrow?

*just typed that to see if you're still reading

Hawks added 7th OA pick in Debrincat trade (7, 39 OA plus 2024 3rd). I am fine with Blake sitting out today. He did his best work already.

I can't help but still be giddy and getting Fiala. Getting a guy in his mid 20's for 7 years who should mesh well with what we do/need. He's a creator who plays a strong cycle game and he can carry the puck into the offensive zone (something only Kempe has done well the past couple years in terms of controlled zone entries). Add 30 goals and a point per game and I'll happy watch the draft with disinterest while I dream of seeing our shiny new toy in action.

Fair and your reasoning is sound. And, I'm ready to see what Kevin can do as well. But, hmmm...how to phrase this?
Ah!

There was this thread on Reddit that asked: What is the smallest hill you're willing to die on?

If I had an account I would have typed: Fire Rob Blake.

And, the hill is getting smaller by the (gulp) day.

What a short-sighted move by the Hawks. The odds of 7th AND 39th overall combined being as good as Debrincat is almost nil. You're doing it wrong! Debrincat could've been the captain of the new Hawks team in five years. Lots of room to pay him until then. I get they want to tank, but I'd be pissed if I was a fan of the Hawks. Sens fans here can't believe they just pulled this off.

Yeah unbelievable. It’s like they panicked.

Chicago has also moved Kirby Dach. Are they trying to get Towes and Kane to leave on their own or what?

All week on NHL Radio they’ve been saying to expect each to be dealt at this years deadline. Dealing both Debringcat and Dach - wow - how do you sell that??!!

All in on Bedard.

Crazy to not even get a single prospect back in the Debrincat trade. This is the draft they’re loading up for?

Why would they trade a guy they drafted in 2019? That's just stupid. Then again, they traded for Seth Jones which now makes little or no sense.

That Seth jones trade and signing seems pretty atrocious now, given Chicagos obvious change in direct to go full tank.

Regarding the Kings picks, I see a lot of size added with the later picks, so it seems like they’re trying to beef up the prospect roster in that respect. Nothing jumps out as a steal, aside from maybe getting good value with the Hughes pick. I would have liked to see them shoot for the moon with Lane Hutson, as he seems to be universally lauded as a ‘unicorn’ type of player. Definitely will be undersized for NHL defender, but Cale Makar is certainly not a big guy by any means either.

Yeah, Chicago is an absolute dumpster fire. Nobody can understand how on earth they traded the Cat. Mind-Boggling.
