Might as well start with this......it's a doooozey if it turns out to be true!

Los Angeles no longer a World Cup 2026 host city, says ESPN

How did Kroenke, and his his architects HKS Architects design a stadium that was not convertible for FIFA football?!?!?!
How in the world did a modern American Football stadium not have in its design the ability to convert for a larger FIFA (world) football pitch size?!?!

Is it that or did he just figure FIFA's demands for tickets, money, etc. was not worthwhile? Or maybe both. The final will no doubt go to Jerry Jones in Dallas. I have a hard time believing they'd pick the meadowlands over that.

EDIT: I misread that it was all world cup games, not just the final. I stand corrected. And WTF?

Yea, I think he is still trying to wheel and deal with FIFA on this.

Meanwhile, there is movement to take LA's matches and move them to Vegas.

^^ Hmmmm.....which things have you feeling that way?

Could it be:

A: Trump saying the World Cup could be an incentive for Russia to end the war in Ukraine.
Meanwhile completely unaware that Russian NT and all Russian clubs are already suspended by FIFA.
Who knew that all it would take for Russia's war to stop would be letting them play again in FIFA sanctioned matches/tournaments?!?!? Big brains!

or

B. Vance threatening international visitors who come to watch the World Cup...."jokingly" threatening them that they could be detained by ICE. (This was said at a meeting of the White House task force for FIFA World Cup 2026). What better way to promote the US&A, the beautiful game, and the world coming together in harmony in your backyard than to threaten the visitors who come with detention.

The answer is yes.

So passing thought, gawd knows what 2026 is going to look like but something tells me the perception of america internationally, is not changing. Should the Kits reflect it, like steer into the role.*
My suggestion: Halloween themed Kits for the USA. If they are going to boo (for obvious reasons) what if we gave the World two reasons? 1) ....(redacted) and 2) they really like ghosts/werewolves/zombies.

*to the non-Americans on this site, please do not take this(goofy post) as dismissive of the gravity of the current and future situations on the World's stage and ask that you judge the people on this thread, individually. Appreciate that you are here and welcome your input on all topics, even if it's bragging about your squad's domaniace (it must be nice).

I mean, we are kind of the walking dead, right?

2 best clubs in the world playing today and it’s only on DAZN… not on TNT… grrrr. At least I was able to watch Chelsea qualify for the final yesterday. Go Blues!

FIFA: Broadcast ratings > weather, health of players, quality of the match due to player fatigue due to weather.
2022 was in Qutar, seems comparable. and, today...the least of the world cup worries. my heart hurts for the future. But, to keep things light, the original terminator drone wars started this year and Ronnie from the Jersey Shore is bigger than that version of Arnold.

I went to several games at the Rose Bowl the last time the World Cup was here. I thought I was going to die just sitting there in the sun in 100+ heat. I don't know how those guys ran around for 90 minutes. It's insane.

At least DAZN is letting you watch for free (even if those annoying "you could go premier" ads pop up every few minutes). I was able to download it on my tv. My father was actually interested but trying to get him to get an app and watch there, forget it. Should be fun today. No Alexander Arnold for Madrid.

And yes, weather is going to be a big concern. Euro teams have already not done well with it in the club world cup :)

Reading this got me excited to see a WC game/friendly at the Rose Bowl and was going to type how I hadn't been there since before covid when my friend's date flaked and he took me to the game (football-the Rose Bowl game) instead. It's a great story ending with James getting so drunk by half-time he went to sleep it off in the car and his friends felt really, really sorry for me (lol. We've met, it was fine, we're not dating). But, emotional support is emotional support. Awe.

But the first g.d. post in this thread is about how there are no games in Los Angeles.

eff.

FWIW, LA is still listed as a host city on FIFA's site. In any case, I expect the tickets will cost an arm, a leg and several other body parts and organs.

Back in the dark ages, I won the lottery to buy tickets and went to 5 WC group stage games, I think, whatever the package was. The price was quite reasonable.

Yea, quite a bit has changes since the OG post.
Here are the LA matches:

Los Angeles will host eight FIFA World Cup 26™ matches at SoFi Stadium. This includes the U.S. Men's National Team's opening match, four additional group stage matches, two Round of 32 knockout matches, and one Quarterfinal match

I went to PSG vs Atletico Madrid. It was hot AF and they wouldn't let anyone bring in water bottles even though the website (from the FIFA FAQ link) specified what water bottles were legal to bring in. My guess was that FIFA wanted to make money selling water to everyone.

Anyhow, it was a major sh*t show (got to see parents rush their daughter having heat stroke down to the concourse and saw the paramedics take her away later when we were in line to get water) and I'll never attend another daytime soccer game at the Rose Bowl. FWIW, I'm not the only one who feels that way:
