4 Nations Face-Off

Hopefully the US will be able to elevate their game to where it should be in the final, as that was a lackluster performance. We were...off.

However, with 5 posts, that still could have easily gone our way. And honestly, all four of these teams are fantastic, so I shouldn't expect a '3rd period Finland' blowout every time they take the ice. Every game in this tournament was close, with even the lopsided USA-FIN game neck and neck through the first two.

I'm anticipating a barn burner on Thursday. Stay classy during the anthems, Boston.

Agreed, stay classy Boston! USA looked tired, slow, just showing up to get to Thursday, had chances but should have won this game. Not going to win Thursday playing like today and need Hella'buck in goal. Thursday should be interesting, not feeling good about this team being able to beat Canada again, should be fun.. Go USA! Go Kings Go!!!!

I wasn’t able to watch today because of work. But I listened to the 3rd period of the Canada-Finland game. That had a wild ending. 4-0 in the 3rd, a goal from Finland with about 6 minutes to go. Then Finland pulls the goalie & scores 2 in the last 2 minutes. After which Crosby puts in the empty netter. As for USA-Sweden, since it was on TNT & they don’t have on demand, I missed the whole thing. If they weren’t up for this game, I’m not surprised. There was nothing really for them to play for. Sweden at least was motivated to win a game.

So I’m not worried that the US would be motivated. And I think most of the guys who were out today will play this one. I am worried about Canada though. I think they’ll be highly motivated after losing that last game. Plus Makar will probably play this game. I still think we’ll win. But it’s going to be harder this time.

So far it’s been a great tournament. I knew they weren’t going to be glorified all-star games. Injuries suck, I know. But those are part of the game. I hope there are no long term effects from those. The highlight so far was Saturday’s US-Canada game. Hopefully the final will exceed that.

Not sure why anyone is questioning the effort of Team USA in that 3rd game vs Sweden. They should not have even bothered to play, as it had zero bearing on the standings and the outcome was inconsequential, aside from negative instances like players getting injured.. which is actually what happened. Trochek and Brady Tkachuk both went down during the game. If you thought USA was gonna risk further injury by banging bodies and blocking shots, you’re out of your f***ing minds.

Since when is this mid-season tournament a thing? Does it replace the All-Star game? Why do I not remember it existing? Every how many years is it played?

Seems very weird that something like this is scheduled mid-season with a nearly two week rest for everyone not involved...yet Winter Olympics were always an issue.

Follow the money. Winter Olympic ticket sales and merch probably don't go to NHL revenues like the 4NT sales have.

This is the first 4NT but I think it will happen again in the future considering the positive response from the media. NHL got to compare and contrast its games against the joke NBA all-star weekend and looked much better.

Absolutely. This is why Winter Olympics participation is always used as a bargaining chip by the NHL during collective bargaining agreement negotiations

As cool as this is, If they do 4NF every year, it will lose its luster and no longer be unique/special.
Players will go back and approach it treat it like the all-star game, and it will get stale.

This needs to be put on the shelf and then brought out every few years.

....but knowing the NHL cash grab they will overdue it and it will get old and stale.
(See Winter Classic, Stadium Series, etc)

Gotta say, I dig the Canadian national anthem. (I think it’s better than our own. 🤫 )

That was the worst rendition of it I think I’ve ever heard.
