All Things:AMC television

Watched the premier and the second episode of The Killing last night. So far, not bad, although I'm a little tired of serial killers in every cop show. Sarsgaard is terrific, as usual. Bullet needs one. Annoying.

Think they are trying to load up on the plotlines in order to try to convince the critics that this is a good show. And they have to come strong. Is it trite? A little. But the acting elevates...and thats what is so good about the show anyway. The rest is really details.

So...is The Killing a show that you need to see from the beginning to understand what's happening now? I caught the 1st 2 of this season, and while it seems flippin' fantastic, I'm wondering if I need to put a hold on it and get caught up first.

It isn't essential, but of course there is some backstory that you have missed. Not to mention, despite the protestations over the Rosie Larson mystery/resolve, it's some fairly good television.

Nah. You're missing some backstory as JD said, primarily regarding the development of the relationship between the two main characters, but the story itself needs no prior knowledge. I'd go and watch the first two seasons just because they're good TV. This season will presumably have no spoilers of what happens in seasons past.

If you're not afraid of subtitles, the Danish original is also very good and while you would recognize season one as involving the same characters as seasons one and two of the American show, the story diverges completely so you can watch one and have no idea what happens in the other.

Man I love the Killing. They 'got the band back together' with Holder and Linden working together last night...just so fun to watch the two play off each other. I swear, is Linden supposed to be autistic? She plays it like she is. Nice to see the partners fighting over Holder. Like the way the different aspects of the story are coming together, still hard(in a good way) to see where they are going. For Jo and anyone who hasn't watched...I think that's what this show does the best. The 'Stephen King' thing, where it's not the destination(or resolution) it's the journey.

The Killing was really good last night. I still can't wrap my mind around that "Casey Jones" from TMNT looks so old now.

He is such a terrific actor when I see him I can't help but think how I would like to know how he feels about TMNT. That HAD to be one of his first gigs.

They finished 5 so far. So they just took hiatus a few days early. Things may be flooded for weeks still though.

The Killing is killing it. I like the two separate story lines and Skarsgaard is fantastic, as always. Being freed from the constraints of the Danish show's story line, however loose those constraints were, seems to have done good things.

I'm both thrilled it is coming back and very sad that it is coming to an end. I have a friend who is just now watching for the first time and he's telling me about how crazy things are getting (in Season Two). I have a hard time not telling him that he ain't seen nuthin' yet.

I get jealous of folks who haven't read the Dark Tower series or the Stand like that...

I haven't and won't. I don't like his writing. At least not his horror genre stuff. I read some of his short stories and they were terrific, but all the genre stuff he writes leaves me cold.
