creator of TMNT says back off?

Caught this from tmz.

The mastermind who CREATED the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back in 1984 isn't offended Michael Bay is rewriting TMNT history -- in fact, he LOVES the director's new vision ... and he wants turtle fans everywhere to back the hell off.

You'll recall ... Bay pissed off a lot of people when he revealed his remake of TMNT would see the loveable turtles as aliens ... not mutants -- outraging super fans across the globe, including Robbie Rist ... the guy who voiced Michelangelo in the 90s movies.

But TMNT creator Peter Laird -- who sold his rights to the story years ago -- is coming to Bay's defense via his blog, telling TMNT lovers, “It could be a genius idea -- for the first time -- someone has come up with a way to have as many freakin' Turtles as they want.”

Laird adds, "I would actually encourage TMNT fans to swallow the 'chill pill' Mr. Bay recently suggested they take."

Turtle power.

Am I the only person on the planet who never understood the appeal of these stupid things?

Well come on.

I get it... it's a funny name and the motif is cute.

But the actual "characters" and "story"? Pfffff.... lowest common denominator drivel kept alive by our generations addiction to nostalgia.

If I never hear about them again it will be too soon.

As a kid, TMNT were my favorite thing in the world, but nowadays... yeah, I don't care at all what happens to them. I'm interested in buying that new hardcover of the old comics, for nostalgia reasons, but that's about it.

Did anyone bother to watch that animated movie that came out a few years ago? Nope.

Jonathan Liebesman TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Reboot Interview

Regarding the “alien race” comments, Liebesman said the “alien” aspect actually comes straight from the series:

“Look, it’s so funny—if everyone was such a die-hard fan, they would know that the TCRI canisters where the ooze comes from. That is alien ooze. Now I’m not saying what Michael said is exactly what the movie is, because we’re sitting in a room now figuring everything out. So we don’t know, but we are like Michael said: we’re expanding it, and the expansion will be true to the mythology. I promise you: fans will love it.”

While it still sounds early in the development process, it appears the whole “alien” aspect may simply be referring to the ooze that mutates the turtles. As Liebesman said, they’re still working out the concept so things could definitely change. He stressed that TMNT comics co-creator Kevin Eastman is working alongside him, so they’re not exactly throwing the series mythology out the window:

I KNOW THAT VOICE Trailer

As a huge fan of cartoons all of my life some of the best moments of ComiCon have come at the Animation panels, where you get to see the faces that go with the voices. I love the idea of this doc and will go out of my way to see it.

I seem to have an uncanny ability to pick out a voice actor's work. For instance, did you realize that on the new Star Tours ride at DL, Patrick Warburton does the voice of the robot in the boarding area near the infrared camera? I picked that out the other day. Also good at finding Wendee Lee's work, as well as several other major vo actors. I can recognize celebrity voice actors in commercials very easily as well...like Tim Allen in Chevy's ads, Gene Hackman doing Lowes, etc. I just seem to be good at recognizing things like that.

Looks like that'd be a neat doc.
