Out There chronicles the coming-of-age misadventures of socially awkward Chad (Ryan Quincy), his little brother Jay (Kate Micucci) and his best friend, Chris (Justin Roiland). Living in the small town of Holford, the boys wander its surreal, bleak landscape waiting out their last few years of adolescence. Along the way, viewers meet Chad’s conservative parents, Wayne (John DiMaggio) and Rose (Megan Mullally), as well as Chris’s single mother, Joanie (Pamela Adlon) and her disastrous boyfriend, Terry (Fred Armisen). They also meet the object of Chad’s affection, Sharla (Linda Cardellini).

Out There premieres on Friday, February 22 on IFC.

Pamela Adlon, eh? Might have to check this out.

Fox Sets Premiere Date For Animated Late-Night Block - Deadline.com

Ok. This is special. Clearly an attempt to mimic the successful Robot Swim format...Fox is really embracing the cable model with this and The Following being the first 12 episode drama, so far, on network.

and Adgy...not only are they making an AxeCop cartoon...look at the damned cast, oh and CRAP!!! The guys behind the terrific Drawn Together are showrunning...WIN.

AXE COP
From the unfettered imagination of a five-year-old boy comes AXE COP, an action-comedy about the most badass superhero who ever existed! Operating on only two minutes of sleep a night and fueled by a diet consisting solely of birthday cake, AXE COP and his loyal partner, FLUTE COP, unleash their unique brand of vigilante justice on bad guys everywhere ? including stopping Hitler from creating an army of evil zombie robots and helping BAT WARTHOG MAN find the villain who stole all his best friends! AXE COP is the unique comic phenomenon created and written by Malachai Nicolle (age five) and his brother, Ethan Nicolle (age 30). What started as a small passion project between two brothers quickly evolved into an online sensation and was later published as a graphic novel by Dark Horse Books. AXE COP was developed for television by Nick Weidenfeld and Judah Miller (AMERICAN DAD). Matt Silverstein and Dave Jeser (?Drawn Together?) serve as executive producers/showrunners. The series ensemble cast includes Megan Mullally (?Children?s Hospital,? ?Will & Grace?), Patton Oswalt (?Young Adult,? ?Ratatouille?), Ken Marino (?Children?s Hospital,? ?Party Down?), Peter Serafinowicz (?Shaun of the Dead?) and weekly guest stars such as Giancarlo Esposito (?Revolution?); rapper Tyler, The Creator; Jonathan Banks (?Breaking Bad?); Rob Huebel (?Despicable Me?); and Dan Harmon (?Community?).

Who knew this even existed...hell, I have an almost encyclopediac memory when it comes to '70's cartoons and I don't even remember this...

BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KIDS (1973) Sing along with WAC! “I pick that axe and then I get a call. Some bad guy’s gonna take a fall. One by one, we’re gonna meet them all and solve that mystery! Come along with me, Butch Cassidy.” And now’s your chance to answer that siren call thanks to this 2-Disc, 13-Episode collection of the complete Hanna Barbera animated rock and dagger series. An undercover teen superspy poses as the biggest teen pop star in the world while a sentient supercomputer named Mr. Socrates sends him and his band on missions — and is their manager. While this Seventies Saturday morning staple has nothing to do with a certain cowboy duo, it plays more like an alt animated spin-off of the little seen The Phynx mixed with a dash of Scooby since there’s a dog, too. The Monkees’ Mickey Dolenz lends his pipes to the proceedings playing the essential Shaggy role.

Of all the shows Fox has lined up for their Animation Domination High Definition comedy block, the one I?m most eagerly looking forward to is Axe Cop. Nick Offerman voices the titular hero, who along with his partner Flute Cop does things like stop Hitler?s zombie robot army. A new short offers an idea of the kind of humor and badassery we?re in for, as Axe Cop explains what he?d do if he were president. Also featuring the voices of Megan Mullally, Patton Oswalt, Ken Marino, and Peter Serafinowicz, Axe Cop debuts July 27.

The Shadow King Is Trying To Escape The Disney Vaults - Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Just check out this plot blurb, and then imagine it rendered in stop motion of Selick’s caibre:

The Shadow King is a deliciously magical tale about nine-year-old New York orphan Hap who hides his fantastically weird hands with long fingers from a cruel world. But when a living shadow girl teaches him to make amazing hand shadows that come to life, his hands become incredible weapons in a shadow war against a ravenous monster bent on killing Hap’s brother Richard and ultimately destroying New York.

Surely that alone would sell tickets? If all this film had for a poster was that blurb, typed out in totally bland type on a big bit of white paper, I still think there’d be an audience.

And it’s bound to look great too with Peter Sorg as cinematographer and Monsters Inc. and The Incredibles‘ Lou Romano in charge of production design.

Selick has now working with the sales agents at K5 international to try and get the project going again with new funding. From the press release cut and paste at Deadline, it does seem that they’ll be able to retrieve work from Disney rather than start again. There’s also a hint that animation has started up again:

The Shadow King until recently in hiatus after Disney exited the project, is already a good way into production.

K5 International is bringing Henry Selick to the European Film Market at Berlin to conduct special presentations to selected buyers with exclusive clips from the film screened behind closed doors as part of the presentation.

Laika Announces THE BOXTROLLS Based on Alan Snow’s HERE BE MONSTERS | Collider

FOCUS FEATURES AND LAIKA REUNITE FOR OCTOBER 2014’s THE BOXTROLLS, BASED ON ALAN SNOW’S BESTSELLER HERE BE MONSTERS AND STARRING THE VOICES OF BEN KINGSLEY, TONI COLLETTE, ELLE FANNING, ISAAC HEMPSTEAD-WRIGHT, JARED HARRIS, SIMON PEGG, NICK FROST, RICHARD AYOADE, TRACY MORGAN

PORTLAND, February 7th, 2013 – Marking their third project together, LAIKA and Focus Features, the two companies behind the current Academy Award-nominated animated feature ParaNorman, announced today that LAIKA has begun production on TheBoxtrolls. The new movie will be released nationwide by Focus on October 17th, 2014. Focus CEO James Schamus and LAIKA President & CEO Travis Knight made the announcement today.

As on the previous animation collaborations ParaNorman and Coraline, Focus will hold worldwide distribution rights to The Boxtrolls, and Universal Pictures International will release the movie overseas (with eOne Distribution handling Canada). Coraline (2009) earned Golden Globe, BAFTA, Critics’ Choice, and Academy Award nominations for Best Animated Feature Film; and was named one of the year’s 10 Best Films by the American Film Institute (AFI). In addition to its Academy Award nomination, ParaNorman (2012) is in the running for the BAFTA Awards’ animated feature prize. ParaNorman has won two Annie Awards (the animation community’s Oscars equivalent) and been cited as best animated feature film by 14 critics’ groups, more than any other 2012 animated feature.

The Boxtrolls is a 3D stop-motion and CG hybrid animated feature based on Alan Snow’s bestselling fantasy adventure novel Here Be Monsters. The Boxtrolls is being directed by Anthony Stacchi (co-director of the hit animated feature Open Season) and Graham Annable (story artist on Coraline and ParaNorman), and produced by David Ichioka and Mr. Knight. The voice cast includes Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley, Academy Award nominee Toni Collette, Elle Fanning (marking her fourth movie with Focus), Isaac Hempstead-Wright (Game of Thrones), Emmy Award nominee Jared Harris (Mad Men), Simon Pegg (Star Trek), Nick Frost (of Focus’ upcoming The World’s End), Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd), and Tracy Morgan (30 Rock).

The Boxtrolls is a comedic fable that unfolds in Cheesebridge, a posh Victorian-era town obsessed with wealth, class, and the stinkiest of fine cheeses. Beneath its charming cobblestone streets dwell the Boxtrolls, foul monsters who crawl out of the sewers at night and steal what the townspeople hold most dear: their children and their cheeses. At least, that’s the legend residents have always believed. In truth, the Boxtrolls are an underground cavern-dwelling community of quirky and lovable oddballs who wear recycled cardboard boxes the way turtles wear their shells. The Boxtrolls have raised an orphaned human boy, Eggs (voiced by Mr. Hempstead-Wright), since infancy as one of their dumpster-diving and mechanical junk-collecting own. When the Boxtrolls are targeted by villainous pest exterminator Archibald Snatcher (Mr. Kingsley), who is bent on eradicating them as his ticket to Cheesebridge society, the kindhearted band of tinkerers must turn to their adopted charge and adventurous rich girl Winnie (Ms. Fanning) to bridge two worlds amidst the winds of change – and cheese.

Mr. Knight said, “The Boxtrolls is a visually dazzling mash-up of gripping detective story, absurdist comedy, and steampunk adventure with a surprisingly wholesome heart. It’s Dickens by way of Monty Python. Tony and Graham have crafted a strange and beautiful world replete with fantastical creatures, good-for-nothing reprobates, madcap antics, and rip-roaring feats of derring-do. But at its core, like all LAIKA films, The Boxtrolls is a moving and human story with timelessness and powerful emotional resonance. We’re thrilled to partner with Focus Features and Universal to bring this remarkable story to family audiences around the world.”

Mr. Schamus commented, “Following our successful collaborations on ParaNorman and Coraline, we are delighted to be embarking on a third wondrous adventure with the LAIKA artisans who transform everyday materials into living creatures infused with dimension, humor, and soul. With a wonderfully appealing menagerie of fun characters, and a generous, open heart at its center, The Boxtrolls will be a must-see for family audiences.”

Universal and Illumination Developing Animated HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS Reboot | Collider

Universal Pictures is taking another stab at the Dr. Seuss classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas!. Over a decade after Ron Howard’s live-action film starring Jim Carrey, Universal and Illumination Entertainment—the studio behind Despicable Me—are developing an animated adaptation of the classic childrens book. Peter Candeland is set to direct, and Illumination’s Chris Melendandri will produce with Seuss’ widow Audrey Geisel onboard as an executive producer. Hit the jump for more details.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! will be Melendandri’s third Seuss adaptation after the charming Horton Hears a Who and the abysmal The Lorax. Variety reports that producers are currently looking for a screenwriter to tackle the adaptation, but the studio is planning The Grinch as their next Dr. Seuss film to hit theaters. This is a tad curious, as it was announced last March that an adaptation of The Cat in the Hat would be Illumination’s next film, but I guess the plans have changed.

The new Grinch is described as a faithful adaptation of the book, as they will “explore the story from a perspective more in line with the underlying tones of the book.” Though I found Horton Hears a Who to be a lot of fun, The Lorax felt completely misguided with shoehorned pop songs and a muddled message. Hopefully Candeland will take good care of How the Grinch Stole Christmas! with this new iteration.
