All Things:Animated

I can never let a discussion of The Little Prince go by without mentioning the 1974 live-action musical film adaptation. Not because it is good: in fact, it is mostly terrible IMO; but it boasts some stellar contributors in director Stanley Donen (Singin' in the Rain), lyricist and composer team Lerner and Loewe (My Fair Lady), and performers Richard Kiley (Tony-award winner as Man of La Mancha), Gene Wilder and Bob Fosse. More importantly, in the midst of this mess, it contains two of the absolutely greatest musical sequences in the history of film. Unsurprisingly, they are the ones with Wilder and Fosse. It doesn't get better than these two just in general, and this movie is no exception. Wilder is amazing as the fox tamed by the titular character, and Fosse delivers a performance as the snake that will look familiar to anyone who has seen a particular music video or two from the '80s.

Really, these two scenes alone make the musical worth watching to anyone who appreciates the source material. It may be a bit obscure and hard to find, um, unless you count the complete version that is just sitting on YouTube right now.

I'd guess The Little Prince is in the black with that 80M foreign BO? They must've lost a bunch from advertising and pulling it but not that much...

Homer: Is this episode going on the air live?
June Bellamy: No Homer, very few cartoons are broadcast live. It's a terrible strain on the animator's wrist.
