All Things:Comedy

John Lithgow Joins Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis in DOG FIGHT

Following a brief stint with apes and a darkly disturbing turn on Showtime’s Dexter, actor John Lithgow is heading back to comedy. Variety reports that Lithgow is joining the cast of Jay Roach’s political comedy Dog Fight. Previously titled Southern Rivals, the film stars Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as rival politicians running for a congressional seat in a small North Carolina district. The core comedic team here is fantastic, and Ferrell and Galifianakis will be joined by Jason Sudeikis, Dylan McDermott, Sarah Baker (Sweet Home Alabama), and Katherine LaNasa (Valentine’s Day).

Roach is directing from a script by Chris Henchy and Shawn Harwell, and he’s producing alongside Ferrell and Galifianakis.

all things can benefit from a little bit o'John Lithgow.

Yes, I am. Like I said Doc, it's an opinion. To me the sequel had the darkness/consequences only flirted with in the original. The first one...everyone went home and learned from their adventure(hooray), whereas the second one Stu(?) had a face tattoo/a love scene with a lady man, and the kid who was studying to be a doctor/violinist lost a finger. And the damned monkey was a better actor than the bunch of em.

I know, not a popular opinion. Really though, Very Bad Things is a better example of what these movies should have been like anyway.

Bradley Cooper Says THE HANGOVER PART III Starts Filming in September; Story Will Take Place in Los Angeles

When The Hangover Part II was released back in May, director Todd Phillips told Steve that The Hangover: Part III “would very much a finale and an ending,” and that the story wasn’t “in the same template you’ve seen these movies.” Putting aside the criticism that they shouldn’t have reused the template for Part II in the first place, it’s good to know that the finale will try something new. Bradley Cooper was recently on The Graham Norton Show and confirmed Phillips’ previous statements. He also provided some new details on the upcoming sequel. Hit the jump for more.

Regarding The Hangover Part III, Cooper told Norton [via Moviehole]:

“I hope we’re going start shooting in September. I know Todd Phillips is working on the script. We adhered to the formula in the second one, [and] the third would close the trilogy. I think it’ll take place in L.A. and not adhere to the structure, it might be different.”

I can understand Cooper’s hesitation to say it will be different. He hasn’t seen the finished script, and since Part II grossed $581 million worldwide, Warner Bros. would probably be fine if Part III were just another remake of the first Hangover. I’m not sure how crazy they are about Phillips saying he’s ending the trilogy, but we’ll see how true that statement holds when the box office receipts come in for the upcoming sequel.

As we previously reported, Phillips is co-writing the screenplay with Craig Mazin (who also co-wrote Part II). Mazin has a pretty great idea for an ending:

I think the third movie ends with Doug staring at a row of crosses in a graveyard. It’s everyone – his wife, his family is dead, everybody from the first movie is dead. Somebody shows up and tells him his dog is dead.

In June, Galifianakis said he heard the plot involves Alan escaping from a mental hospital with help from Stu and Phil. I doubt either of these plot points will come to pass, but I’ll stay interested as long as Part III isn’t The Hangover But in LA This Time.

Sorry no sale on 3 stooges, it looks like a cheap imitation, and what is with all the nuns? The Iphone gag was lame, the lobster gag belongs in "The Hangover" and it will flop HARD at the box office.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU

The first trailer for What to Expect When You’re Expecting has debuted and it’s actually not bad at all. Given the film’s large ensemble and multiple storyline style, I figured we were in for the Valentine’s Day of baby movies, but What to Expect actually looks like a solid comedy. The standouts here are Elizabeth Banks and Rob Heubel, with the latter playing a man who really, really shouldn’t be a father. Unlike Valentine’s Day or New Year’s Eve, this movie looks like it’s actually telling real stories with interesting characters.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The cast also includes Anna Kendrick, Cameron Diaz, Dennis Quaid, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Rock, Chace Crawford, Matthew Morrison, Brooklyn Decker, Thomas Lennon, and Wendy McLendon-Covey

Meh.
