Review: 'Identity Thief' Joylessly Steals Nearly Two Hours Of Your Life | The Playlist

Seth Gordon, who made a classic documentary and one of the best sports movies in recent memory with his videogame chronicle "King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters" before moving on to painfully mediocre comedies like the summertime smash "Horrible Bosses," listlessly directed "Identity Thief" like someone who literally had nothing better to do with his time. Every scene droops instead of bounces, but perhaps more crucially, "Identity Thief" is almost smug in its own excess, seeming to think that having Melissa McCarthy do her increasingly tired schtick and Jason Bateman frown is enough to carry a movie. The two actors are game, but unanchored, both by the script by Craig Mazin ("The Hangover Part II," "Scary Movie 4" which says all you need to know) and by Gordon, who doesn't so much direct the movie as just turn the camera on.

With long stretches (we're talking 20-30 minutes) without a single guffaw, "Identity Thief" is aggressively dull, and will joylessly steal two hours of your life that you will never get back. [D]

SUPER TROOPERS 2 May Shoot This Year | Collider

It looks like a sequel to the 2001 cult comedy Super Troopers may be ready to shoot later this year if Broken Lizard’s Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme are to be believed. Heffernan was quoted as saying:

“We wrote the script and handed it in to Fox, and now we’re just negotiating the time and the place and hopefully shoot it some time this year. I have to start growing my mustache now.”

This would certainly come as some good news for fans of the hilarious original picture, directed by Jay Chandrasekhar, that centered on a group of Vermont state troopers . Hit the jump to watch the trailer for the original.

GuySpeed.com (via The Wrap) reported on the progress of Super Troopers 2.

RAPTUREPALOOZA Red-Band Trailer Featuring Anna Kendrick and John Francis Daley | Collider

The first red-band trailer director Paul Middleditch?s post-apocalyptic comedy Rapturepalooza has been released online. The film stars Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect) and John Francis Daley (Freaks and Geeks, Bones) as a couple who must battle their way through the end of the world following The Rapture in order to defeat the Antichrist (Craig Robinson). I was born and raised in the Bible Belt so the rapture comedy aspect of the film certainly hits home for me, and the cast looks to be having fun with the pic?s outlandish premise.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Rob Corddry, Thomas Lennon, Rob Heubel, John Michael Higgins, Ana Gasteyer, and Ken Jeong. Rapturepalooza will be available in theaters and on demand on May 10th.

Wait a minute...
end of the world following The Rapture in order to defeat the Antichrist (Craig Robinson).
...let that sink in. I loves me some CR.

The unfortunate thing about this event is that it's tonight at the same time as the Kings game, but the greatest sports movie, Slap Shot, is playing at the Aero in Santa Monica with some special guest panelists:

Discussion following with actor Jerry Houser, actress Jennifer Warren, and producer Robert Crawford, moderated by Larry Karaszewski.

Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig & Tobey Maguire To Star In IFC Miniseries 'The Spoils Of Babylon' | The Playlist

Ferrell will be joined Kristen Wiig and Tobey Maguire in the IFC miniseries and awesomely titled, "The Spoils Of Babylon," inspired by "The Thorn Birds" and "Winds Of War." Produced by Funny Or Die and set to be directed by Matt Piedmont (who directed 'Casa' and co-wrote this script with Andrew Steele), the show will follow the oil rich Morehouse family and the orphan Devon Morehouse (Maguire), taken in when he was young, but goes on to run Morehouse Enterprises, the seventh largest company in the world, alongside his step-sister Cynthia (Wiig). Fighting off their feelings for each other, they will also have to deal with the Shah Of Iran, who will be played Ferrell, which will be awesome.
