FATHER OF INVENTION Trailer

A promotional onslaught is in effect for director Trent Cooper?s comedy Father of Invention as a new trailer, poster, and a slew of new images from the film have gone online. Starring Kevin Spacey, Heather Graham, Craig Robinson, Virginia Madsen, Johnny Knoxville, John Stamos, and Camilla Belle, the film centers on a former infomercial guru (Spacey) who finds himself in prison after a design flaw in one of his inventions de-fingers many of his customers. From there, Father of Invention looks to document Spacey?s attempted return to ?As Seen on TV? glory

The world would be a better place with more Craig Robinson!

Yeah Baby Yeah! Mike Myers To Return To AUSTIN POWERS!
Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

I do not want to hear a single complaint. His vomitus personality has forced him back to the well and that's fine with me. The AP movies have gotten better and better and Mini-me needs some work.

Mike Myers hasn't had very much success outside the SHREK films in recent years, although I loved his turn as Captain British Exposition (yes, I know, that's not his name) in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. But THE LOVE GURU did terribly and he hasn't been in many films since then. So it comes as not much of a surprise that Myers has decided to return to the role that gave him worldwide stardom - no, not Wayne, but Austin Powers, according to a HitFix exclusive (Drew's on a roll lately!).

No word on a story, or who would be directing - Jay Roach did good work in the other films, so I'd love it if he returned as well - but I can imagine Austin Powers spoofing the Bourne films and the Daniel Craig iteration of James Bond. "You guys are so serious, baby! And none of you shag with any regularity!" And Dr. Evil would return as well, I'm assuming; with all the faceless enemies of the new spy films, I'd be curious to see how Myers would spoof that with Dr. Evil. The AUSTIN POWERS movies still hold up - they're ridiculous and have the mentality of a 12-year-old watching a porno for the first time, but they're still so damn funny and enjoyable. I'm glad to have Austin Powers and Dr. Evil back. Pinky to mouth time!

Have you watched MacGruber yet?

No sir...haven't. Should I really? Is it going to be that profound? I am not a Will Arnett/Kristen Wiig/SNL fan. Is it going to sway me? Have you seen Rise of the Planet of the Apes(god that's a wordy dumb title) yet?

It won't be profound... I just happen to think it's goddamned hilarious.

And no. I'm not going to see Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I didn't even really like the first Planet of the Apes.

I didn't even really like the first Planet of the Apes.

Nor do I.

I mean, as a 60's flick, it works on a Cuban Missle Crisis level, but it's become a rampant cliche at this point as far as I'm concerned. Especially when it comes to the more recent iterations.

Wait...so you are judging one of the seminal SCIENCE FICTION movies as invalid in this era as opposed to when it was filmed? I grew up with the apes series and they mirrored the times as far as class/race, sure they do not fair well in this day and age, but jaysus they were tremendously relevant at the time. It's a disservice to dismiss the pota series. Hell, a ton of the scifi movies of the SEVENTIES seem old school now but still were almost crucial when they were made. So, Soylent Green/Omega Man...do you dismiss these movies too????

philistine. UNCLEAN...fie fie!!!!

I just don't enjoy watching it. I'm not attacking it's merits or anything...

I never actually watched any of the other films because I didn't enjoy the first one. Are they actually as poignant as the first? Or was it just another example of a studio cynically cashing in on a well received meme? *cough* Pirates *cough*

I have never watched any of the Austin Powers movies. *shrugs*

And I enjoy the Planet of the Apes more now than when I first watched it. Haven't seen anything outside of the first film and the Burton remake.

I have no words here. First off, the AP trilogy is brilliant, with the exception of the first one(which is ok) simply because it clings more to the standard satire formula, whereas 2 + 3 just ran with the silliness and almost had a Family Guy rapid fire gag feel to them.
And as a fan of older movies you have never watched the entire original POTA series??? Shame on you. Mixed bag for sure but they still hold up surprisingly well despite the age.
Well, lookit that, I had some words after all.

Saw this yesterday...yes, you were right Doc. In a harmless but unecessary/instantly forgettable movie Danny McBride sleepwalks his way through a watered down version of Eastbound, Asiz Ansari makes Chris Rock look like Sir Laurence and strangely, the only one that comes off ok is Eisenberg. Maybe because he is more regular guy than his usually neurotic dead eyed empty slate. Glad we theater snuck in on this one.

Mike Myers Closes Deal to Return in AUSTIN POWERS 4

[Update: Deadline reports that Myers hasn't officially signed a deal for Austin Powers 4 yet, but his reps came to New Line this week to express interest in the deal. In short, AP4 is most likely happening, but it may not be official just yet.]

Roach was asked about the idea of a 3D comedy, and he wondered aloud whether the concept could work:

If we ever did an Austin Powers 4, I would love to do Dr. Evil’s world in 3D. It would be fantastic. I wonder if anyone would think about… I guess you couldn’t really mix and match. It’d be great to use it as a one-world as 3D and the other world is… it probably would make more sense if Austin’s world was 3D and Dr. Evil’s was more flat.

I don’t know that 3D is the tool that will reinvigorate the Austin Powers franchise, but at least he’s thinking in those terms. Myers just turned 48, and could very well be 50 before the movie comes out. This will be a good, two-decade case study for my theory that comedy, like rap, is a young man’s game.

I am not totally convinced the sequel is fact. The project could fall by the wayside if Myers isn’t 100% motivated. But if Austin Powers 4 is indeed coming, what is the fan appetite? Are you in?

Mike Myers' Rep: Still No 'Austin Powers' Deal | The Wrap Movies

There's still no deal for a fourth "Austin Powers" movie, although actor-writer-producer Mike Myers and New Line Cinema are "in talks," Myers' publicist has re-confirmed to TheWrap.

Though website HitFix wrote on Friday that a deal was done -- a report numerous other sites picked up on Saturday -- TheWrap reported that while a deal was "close," nothing yet had been signed.

"They are in talks," Ina Treciokas said late Monday in an email to TheWrap.

‘Parks & Recreation’ Star Adam Scott Finally Gets A Lead Role In Comedy ‘A.C.O.D.’

adam-scott-to-star-in-acod.jpg

The title is a acronym for “Adult Children of Divorce,” and Scott will play Carter, a thirtysomething whose parents divorced acrimoniously long ago. Years later, his younger brother Trey is getting married, and Scott’s character has to bring his mom and dad back together for the wedding and stop their hatred from ruining the event. The script, from Stuart Zicherman (who co-created the short-lived J.J. Abrams-produced series “Six Degrees”) and Ben Karlin (a “Daily Show” veteran and co-creator of “The Colbert Report”), made the 2008 Black List, and Zicherman will make his directorial debut on the project. Black Bear Pictures, who are behind Ramin Bahrani‘s next film, are producing.

We’ve read the script, and it’s pretty great: somewhere between “Bridesmaids” and Noah Baumbach in tone, and should prove an excellent showcase for Scott, as well as plenty of other top comic actors. Filming will get underway in March, fitting around Scott’s “Parks & Recreation” schedule, so we’ll likely see this in theaters (or least on the fest circuit) in the early part of 2013.

Jason Bateman & Melissa McCarthy To Commit ‘ID Theft’

Melissa McCarthy—who walked away with pretty much every scene she had in “Bridesmaids”—will team with Bateman for “ID Theft” which he will also produce. Penned by Steve Conrad (”The Pursuit Of Happyness,” “The Weather Man”) with Craig Mazin (”The Hangover Part II & III”—told you Bateman was savvy) doing a rewrite, the premise originally centered on two men, one who steals the identity of the other. But once Bateman saw McCarthy’s comedic chops, he championed her for the role of the identity thief, and we’re definitely digging the concept already.

Foot Cramps & Sex Don’t Mix In Red Band Trailer For ‘A Good Old Fashioned Orgy’

Led by the omnipresent Jason Sudeikis, the film boats a pretty simple premise: as a send off to the cottage where a group of friends have summered for years, a final blowout orgy is planned. Even though the film is lined up to be a cameo fest, it seems everyone is making the most of their time. Will Forte and Lucy Punch as the newlyweds who are pissed at their friends for just now deciding to do an orgy are a highlight, while David Koechner also appears with a strange request (and look, there’s Martin Starr!). We caught the film earlier this spring at the Tribeca Film Festival, calling it a worthy throwback to films like “Animal House” and “Stripes,” and at the very least it looks like it will put a solid cap on a long summer of foul mouthed comedies.

Tyler Labine, Leslie Bibb, Lake Bell, Michelle Borth, Nick Kroll and Lindsay Sloane round out the cast for the film that will make Labor Day sexier when it opens on September 2nd.
