Criterion Announces April Titles

The Criterion Collection has announced five titles for Blu-ray release in April: On April 14th, it will release Preston Sturges' Sullivan's Travels (1941) and Carol Reed' Odd Man Out (1947). On April 21, it will release Jean Renoir's The River (1951). And on April 28th, it will release Jean-Pierre Melville's Le silence de la mer (1949) and Peter Yates' The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1973).

The Friends Of Eddie Coyle is pretty great, but looks like I get this month off from buying stuff.

Really? Dang. I'm a nudge away from buying all 5. A light nudge, because I'll definitely buy 3.

I've only seen 2 of them, Eddie Coyle and the Melville one, and while I liked them both I don't know how often I'd re-watch them. The others I'd like to see first. Especially Sullivan's Travels, after reading some excited comments about that release. I bet it'll show up on Turner Classics sooner than later, though. It seems like they do mini Joel McCrea marathons every couple weeks.

Also, the link doesn't mention it, but the Eclipse box set for the month is three silent Ozu crime dramas.

Probably pick that up at some point.

Sullivan's Travels is a must.
