Kevin Smith Says ‘Yoga Hosers’ Is A Counter To Male-Centric Comic-Book Movies

http://uproxx.com/filmdrunk/2015/06...-a-counter-to-male-centric-comic-book-movies/

So much stuff covered here, really good article. Especially this...

He dismissed the idea he’d ever get the chance to direct a comic-book adaptation. But he said if he did, he’d like to put a “noir-ish thriller” spin on a DC Comics character called the Question, a vigilante who erases his facial features with a special substance.

“I’d do what Christopher Nolan did with Batman, except with a superhero no one’s ever heard of whose superpower is face palsy.”

“I always thought if you were in an alley and *****ing Batman showed up you’d be like, ‘Oh *****, Batman.’ But if a dude shows up with no features and starts punching you, you would probably kill yourself in fear,” he explained.

“Whelp, this guy literally has no eyes, nose or mouth. Guess I better hang myself from this fire escape while he swings wildly at the air around him, struggling to breathe.” Yeah, Kevin. Really shocked no one’s beating down your door to make this one.

Jesus, the guy who is "commenting" on Smith's talk is a ****ing douche.

Yeah, I was able to enjoy the article by skipping over his witticisms. I dunno when it started, but the press' open hostility towards the man baffles me. I get that he puts himself out there as an easy target but there is this perception that it is not only okay, but required to repeatedly bash the man. And it's borderline harrasment/assault most times, like here in this article. Is Smith really the danger to cinema that most of these hacks would have you believe? That's why it's so nice to see the man enjoying hisself. It all seemed to really get to him, hence the retirement. Now he just takes it all in stride...and keeps doing what he wants to do. That's why I will always defend/support the man.

Quentin Tarantino is Retrofitting 50 Theaters with 70mm Projectors for THE HATEFUL EIGHT
http://collider.com/hateful-eight-70mm-theatrical-release/

Tarantino has long been a vocal proponent of film preservation – from his personal archive of film prints, to his no-digital-allowed revival theater The New Beverly, to his persistent dedication to shooting on celluloid – providing the world with the means to properly view his 70mm western it yet another instance of Tarantino putting his money where his mouth is when it comes to the preservation of film in cinema.

Say what you want about the man and his movies...but...

HATEFUL EIGHT Comic-Con Panel Recap: Ennio Morricone’s Score, New Poster, More
http://collider.com/hateful-eight-comic-con-panel-recap-ennio-morricone-score-poster-more/

Tarantino announced that Ennio Morricone will be doing the score for The Hateful Eight, the famed composer’s first Western score in 40 years. The composer is recording the score in Prague.

Oh yeah, the intro video with Sam Jackson giving you a Panavision history along with announcing the road show, was funny as hell.

Get to go pick up my old school Lobby Card that was a gift redemption at the panel.

Watch: Full Pilot For Failed 'Clerks' TV Series

What’s that? You’ve never heard of “Clerks” the TV series? As AV Club reports, such a thing almost came to be. Now, before you wonder how such a potentially groundbreaking show died before leaving the gate, I should tell you that Smith was not involved in any way. Because of his absence, Jay and Silent Bob are noticeably absent (Jay was repurposed by producers as Ray); more so, though, due to his lack of participation, the show’s pilot sucked. Terribly. For proof, take an 89 second break from reading this to watch the show’s opening scene in the full pilot below, and then come back to me. I’ll wait…
Speaking of the actors, you probably recognized the tanning-obsessed customer as Keri Russell. The future “Felicity” star was supposed to be a regular on the show, which starred none other than Jim Breuer. Breuer replaced Anderson as Randal Graves, while Andrew Lowery took over for Brian O'Halloran as Dante Hicks (and that’s not to imply that either Anderson or O'Halloran have any regrets about not reprising their roles for this awful series that never was, though they both did audition for the role of Dante).

PROVOCATIVE, PENSIVE AND SPLENDIDLY ACTED, HITCHCOCK’S ‘ROPE’ IS A HECK OF A FILM

I'm guessing this post would go here?

So I saw Straight Outta Compton this weekend. Going into the movie I feared it would be Hallmark Channel presents the story of NWA, and to an extent it was kind of that but it was still entertaining. I grew up listening to NWA and gangsta rap, so I couldn't help but having my knowledge of how things really went down kind of distract me from the film. From the get go you get that this story is being told from the perspective of Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, and while I thought a lot of the Ice Cube and Eazy E stuff was honest and engaging, almost every scene involving Dr. Dre came off like it was a after school television special. I even busted up laughing at one point in the movie that involved a very emotional thing that happened in Dr. Dre's life because that's how cornball some of the scenes were that involved his plotline. While I don't think the way they portrayed Eazy E was a 100% accurate, for the most part his story was the highlight of the entire film, and the actor that portrayed Eazy did a very excellent job playing him. Ice Cube's son also did an admirable job playing his father.

Overall I recommend the film as it's a good film to break up the tediousness of the loud summer blockbuster season. If you don't know anything about NWA just don't go in expecting the bible on how things really went down with the group, and also don't expect this film to be representative of how hood movies really are. Also bring a pee jar because this movie is longer than it needs to be even though the film completely omits one of the important aspects of the NWA story, the feud between Eazy E and Dr. Dre
