"Paddington" is a model that I'd love to see Hollywood follow, a film that is absolutely aimed at mainstream family audiences but that allows a strong filmmaker to assert a real sense of style and voice. It's an excellent showcase for Paul King, for the tremendous character animation by Framestore, and for Ben Whishaw's delicate, inquisitive work as the title character, and it is one of those rare family films that actually seems to think of children as smart and full of empathy. If you take your family this weekend, you may well find yourself just as delighted by it as your children.

Did not expect this. The release date combined with Colin Firth jumping off as the voice had me worried. Still think this is too 'veddy English' to translate to big crowds, let's hope good word of mouth and lack of other kids flicks prove me wrong.

There are so many reasons why ‘Paddington’ shouldn’t work as a movie. Chief among them, of course, is the fact that this is a contemporary CGI-fueled update of a quaint old children’s book series. We’ve been down that road countless times before, and this should be yet another example of that endlessly disappointing trend in contemporary family filmmaking. And yet, against all the odds, ‘Paddington’ is an incredibly charming and at times downright enchanting little movie that I can’t recommend enough.

I'm really surprised at the reviews so far. I told the Mrs that I thought it would not be a movie I would be interested in at all from the trailer. Her cousin is the big paddington fan so we're going to wait for her take on it.

Okay look. This **** is ridiculous and absurd and that’s EXACTLY WHY I’M SO HAPPY IT EXISTS. Monster Trucks immediately struck me as the kind of movie I would have LOVED as a kid; the kind of movie that would either spawn the coolest toy line ever or would be spawned from the coolest toy line ever. I’d probably have even collected all the Happy Meal trucks, because you just know McDonald’s would’ve been all over this **** back in the ’80s. We all would’ve been. And though I may be 30-years-old here in 2016, I’m still a kid at heart. And I still want this ****.

I need to stop calling this movie ‘****.’ I mean it could be. But I’ll probably love it all the same.

On a more serious note, I do believe that the world needs more movies like Monster Trucks. What do I mean when I say that? I mean that kid-friendly, original monster movies have mostly fallen by the wayside in recent years, and that makes me sadder for the kids of today than for myself… and I’m pretty damn sad about it. Yes, Monster Trucks could turn out to be a pile of ****, but judging from the trailer, it looks like a whole lot of fun. It also looks to be loaded with charm, which is another thing absent from the movies of today. And perhaps best of all, it’s live-action. Well, as live-action as a movie about computer-generated monsters can be.

Not that I'll probably watch that movie since I am not the intended audience, but I am surprised that the live action Dora in that picture looks like you would expect her to look.

Hollywood sometimes has a hard time taking kids shows at face value without trying to make them hip or modern or edgy. Then again, we haven't seen a trailer so who knows? Haha. :D
