Zhang Yimou may direct Josh Brolin as QUASIMODO! - Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

Variety has reported that Zhang Yimou, he of HERO and HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS fame, is eyeballing the director's chair for Warner Bros.' HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME update, QUASIMODO. Josh Brolin as been attached to play the lead character for quite some time, and the PAPER MAN/SHERLOCK HOLMES: GAME OF SHADOWS writing team of Michele and Kieran Mulroney have drafted the current script. Tim Burton was previously in talks to direct the picture, but I guess he couldn't figure out how to properly render Johnny Depp as a hunchbacked monstrosity, and now it looks like we got Yimou.

Review: Neill Blomkamp's 'Elysium' Starring Matt Damon & Jodie Foster | The Playlist

With "Elysium," Blomkamp has made good on the promise of "District 9" and proven that working on a bigger canvas doesn't mean compromising on smarts or aspirations to deliver tentpole-sized stories with a thoughtful backbone. And really, it's those qualities that set "Elysium" apart from the slog of sequels, spinoffs, remakes and superhero movies. It has the audacity (at least in Hollywood terms) of aiming for something original both in concept and design, and that Blomkamp's nails it in a fashion as entertaining, thrilling and memorable as this is all the more reason you need to see it. Who Owns Omni? - BoingBoing

But Omni seems in limbo. Even though Frommer has revealed that he physically possesses the magazine's archives, no one seems to know precisely who owns its brand and its copyrights — whatever rights the entity had in the first place. Oh, and by the way:

Bong Joon Ho’s Snowpiercer has, as of Tuesday, sold four million tickets after just a week in theaters, the shortest time span for a film to reach that level of admissions in South Korean box office history.

And while I'm here:

Snowpiercer: Film Review - Hollywood Reporter

A politically charged, fantastical action thriller, which is both contemplative and entertaining, hammering home points about social injustice of the present day -- but maybe a bit too overtly.

Though it has a beautiful look to it, the plot looks to be a predictable, trite, post-apocalyptic, demonize-the-rich one. And Matt Damon is in it.

Pass.

Oh come on, there is not a funnier thing I have seen all year than that part of the Elysium trailer where Matt Damon gets a beatdown from a robot after he sasses it.

yup, wouldn't want to 'demonize the rich'. Such an undeserved bad rap. I'm guessing you are a big Limbaugh/O'Reilly fan.
