All Things: TELEVISON

Caught the two hour pilot of Alcatraz last night (and have the next two recorded), I liked it quite a bit for some reason even though I found the dialogue quite cheesy. It should be a piece of cake to create interesting storylines each week. Sam Neill is awesome and I kept expecting an evil chuckle to end each scene. The score fit the mood of the show IMO. I am slightly concerned that the lead actress feels so miscast and unbelievable as a detective though.

On a side note, as someone who doesn't watch many crime dramas I didn't realize how much violence they can show on broadcast television. Every few minutes someone else is being shot/stabbed etc

Alcatraz episode 4 has already coined the best line of 2012 so far: "Hamburglar Escape Tunnel". One guess as to who might've said it! :)

Yeah, the lead actress is horribly miscast. The charms of the show have me hooked and she's starting to grow on me. Surprising, because the casting otherwise is pretty spot on. And yeah, that line was pretty cool. I LOVE Hurley. They were so smart about how they fit him into the story. Handled so well that you can actually buy into it. Once again, makes you scratch your head about the lead...hoping that their decision factors in later on. Overall, it's a decent show that has a chance to be more than it is so far. Cautiously optimistic.

Have no issues with Sarah Jones as lead. Had not heard of her before, so if she can grow to be the next Anna Torv-type lead, then cool. Especially when 6/10 of the threads on IMDB only talk about 'her rack'.

Funny you should mention that... I am a great fan of 'racks' yet in episode one, where she is chasing the escapee, it was so obvious that they were a hindrance to her ability to run. Part of the reason why I have trouble with her character. Plus she just seems so...I dunno, lightweight, for a character who is hinted to have a lot of depth. Like I said, it's not a deal killer. Just a head scratcher.

NBC Sets March Premiere Date for AWAKE Starring Jason Isaacs

Here’s the full press release:

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – February 3, 2012 – NBC will premiere its intriguing new drama “Awake” on Thursday, March 1 (10-11 p.m. ET), starring Jason Isaacs (“Harry Potter,” “Brotherhood”) as a detective who finds he is leading a complex double life that defies reality. The series will continue on Thursdays (10-11 p.m. ET).

“The Firm” will move from Thursdays (10-11 p.m. ET) to Saturdays (9-10 p.m. ET) beginning February 11, where the drama will resume with original episodes. Encore episodes of “Grimm” will air Thursdays (10-11 p.m. ET) beginning on February 9.

The announcements were made today by Robert Greenblatt, Chairman of NBC Entertainment.

From executive producers Kyle Killen (“Lone Star”) and Howard Gordon (“Homeland,” “24”), “Awake” is an intriguing drama about Detective Michael Britten (Isaacs) who finds he’s living two parallel lives. He’s involved in a car accident that seems to have killed both his son (Dylan Minnette, “Saving Grace”) and wife (Laura Allen, “Terriers”), yet his mind creates an ingenious coping mechanism in which he now lives two separate lives – one where his wife survived and the other where his son did.

Trying to regain some normalcy, Michael returns to solving crimes in both worlds with the help of two different partners, Detective Isaiah “Bird” Freeman (Steve Harris, “The Practice”) and Detective Efrem Vega (Wilmer Valderrama, “That ’70s Show”). Michael is assigned a different case in each reality and quickly discovers that his dual existence is actually a powerful tool. He begins to solve impossible cases by using his two realities to gain unique perspectives and link clues that cross over from world to world.

Helping Michael to navigate his two realities are his bureau-assigned therapists Dr. Evans (Emmy Award winner Cherry Jones, “24″) and Dr. Lee (BD Wong, NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”). While both therapists work to untangle his two worlds, Michael has no interest in proving either one is false. But when memories of the accident begin to haunt him, he is forced to confront the truth about what really happened the night of the crash.

“Awake” is produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television.

Love Jason Isaacs. Hopefully this will get a chance to thrive.

Oren Peli THE RIVER Interview

Starts tonight...give this one a try guys. I have a good feeling about this one, but it's going to need support from the get go.

B.T.W. Alcatraz is getting a wee bit silly, but it's still a decent watch. Not ready to call that one yet but they need to smarten it up a little bit. Last nights episode took a lot of cheesy shortcuts.

I like the whole secret of Alcatraz part but the procedural part of the show where they catch a different criminal every episode is poorly done. They have been taking shortcuts since the series started.

Loving Alcatraz. Even if it's not fully there yet this should turn out to be a great SF show.

*sigh*

Is it GOOD? Or is this like when you wanted people to get behind The Cape. Cus The Cape SUCKED.

The Cape was always going to be a sub-heroes show. Not good, but well meaning, The River is a diffrent animal entirely. From top to bottom, a show that has top tier talent trying to make a new model for television. Telling you, from what I have read/posted/extrapolated...this one has high potential.

And Kingsqueen was texting me throughout...that it was 'weird' and there was some 'really freaky **** going on...', especially with 'dolls'.

Just watched The River. Its done very simlar to the Paranormal movies only in the amazon. I love the Paranormals even though they scare the hell outta me, which is hard to do. If you like the Paranormals, you'll like it.
