All Things: TELEVISON

......Do I try out Le Blacklist or Hostages?

James Spader > Derbil McDillett

I watched Blacklist because of Spader, and wasn't disappointed. I won't say much since some of you have yet to watch it. Nothing is perfect (except Spader), but it was very entertaining and had a couple of good surprises. Ratings say it beat everything else in the time slot.

I wasn't the least bit interested in Hostages until I saw a new commercial last night that offered a possible huge twist, but it's too late because I only have so much time and that one didn't make my list.

Blacklist was pretty good, even if the FBI agents fall for one of the oldest tricks in the world halfway through it and there are plenty of holes in the story if one thinks about them. Spader's character is just a perfect use of his innate smarminess. I'm going to assume that the beyond obvious potential connection between him and the main chick is not the case, but even so you know there will be a period of several episodes where the show will make it look like that is the case and it will be really annoying. I really liked the twist right before the end (when the main chick is alone and finds something), which added another interesting subplot and redeemed something that looked like it was going to be an anchor dragging the show down.

I wasn't that impressed with SHIELD. A little hard to follow and didn't really care too much about anyone besides Coulson. Will give it some more time.

And I might be crazy, but I watched The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife, and liked them both.

I watched The Goldbergs by force and thought it was funny. Way better than I expected. My husband watched about 45 seconds of Trophy Wife and then it was gone.
We can't DVR 2 things at once AND change channels, so when the Kings are on I can only DVR one thing at a time. Yes, I live in 2010. Tuesdays will be tough with SHIELD overlapping Brooklyn 99, and The Goldbergs against New Girl.

I can watch a third thing live, but not on my main TV where I plugged the DVR in. I really need to smarten up and move the DVR elsewhere. I have not watched Shield yet (probably after Survivor (I am so sick of Rupert's act)), but since I had a conflict and watched The Middle live, I left the TV on and watched the show with James Caan and Maggie Lawson. It is alright, but nothing worth going out of one's way for. Caan's character is a clich? that has been done to death, and Lawson's character could use a lot more development. Hey, the kid talks and acts above his age! That never happened before. The kids on the baseball team are loveable losers! I did love Lawson's pitching showdown though and many of the jokes are amusing enough.

'Breaking Bad' Creator Vince Gilligan Heads To Network TV Next For 'Battle Creek' | The Playlist

Variety reports that CBS has given a series order to "Battle Creek," which has been sitting collecting dust at the studio since 2002, when Gilligan first started developing it. David Shore ("House") will showrun the program alongside Gilligan, and it's another crime drama of sorts, this time from the perspective of those who preserve law and order, focusing on a pair of mismatched detectives working in Battle Creek, Michigan who must "figure out if cynicism, guile and deception will help clean up the streets...or, if naivete and trust will get the job done."

Caught up on a bunch of stuff

Back in the Game:standard sitcom stuff...EXCEPT, really smartly written kids parts and...JAMES CAAN, doing what he does best. For sitcom fodder, you could do worse.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D(Of Anaheim/Los Angeles): TOOOOOOOOO many pretty people filling standard 'types'. The lead(after Coulson) is a hammerhead who 'isn't a team player' blahblahblah. Too early to write off because of Whedon, but man this was kinda a chore to sit through.

Sleepy Hollow: Second episode was a lot clumsier and less fun, but I still think there is something to like here. Clancy Brown possibly recurring as a ghost sure helps.

Blacklist: Wow, I really liked this. Maybe because it was Joe Carnahan directed and exec produced, and I think he catered...we will see in future episodes. Wow, what happened to Spader, b.t.w.?

All in all some decent future cancellations, I still really like Dads/Brooklyn99 and BEST OF ALL, all of these shows are on Hulu so my overtaxed DVR can breath a sigh of relief.

Felt exactly the same way.

I have no desire to watch the second episode.... just a weird sense of obligation.

Yeah. I think I am watching more cause I have to, not cause I want to. It's just such a BIG THING. So much hype, and interesting because of it's potential to unite tv and movies and really establish a functioning universe. The problem is that it plays like an ordinary tv show. Nothing special at all. Almost like they went out to cookie cutter cast and sanded anything like a creative edge off the show. Feels like Avengers-lite for the people in Podunk, Nebraska who are too challenged by the big movies. Too early to pull the chute after one episode but it wasn't a good start. I just didn't care and I don't get the feeling that there are ever going to be any consequences. Maybe they are afraid to introduce that because it begs the question 'well, where are the Avengers?'

ABC Heading to Sisterland for a Paranormal Experience - Dread Central

More adaptation news has come in as Deadline is reporting that Rina Mimoun and Fake Empire's Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage have teamed to work on "Sisterland," which has landed at ABC.

Based on the best-selling novel by Curtis Sittenfeld, Sisterland tells the story of identical twin sisters born with paranormal abilities and how those abilities shape their very different lives.

Mimoun is writing the adaptation and is executive producing with Schwartz, Savage, and Fake Empire president of television Len Goldstein.

Book Synopsis:
From an early age, Kate and her identical twin sister, Violet, knew that they were unlike everyone else. Kate and Vi were born with peculiar “senses”—innate psychic abilities concerning future events and other people’s secrets. Though Vi embraced her visions, Kate did her best to hide them.

Now, years later, their different paths have led them both back to their hometown of St. Louis. Vi has pursued an eccentric career as a psychic medium, while Kate, a devoted wife and mother, has settled down in the suburbs to raise her two young children. But when a minor earthquake hits in the middle of the night, the normal life Kate has always wished for begins to shift. After Vi goes on television to share a premonition that another, more devastating earthquake will soon hit the St. Louis area, Kate is mortified. Equally troubling, however, is her fear that Vi may be right. As the date of the predicted earthquake quickly approaches, Kate is forced to reconcile her fraught relationship with her sister and to face truths about herself she’s long tried to deny.

Hey ABC...The River. Nuff said.

And a bigger bummer for me...... it's a Joss Wheedon project (ostensibly) but it didn't seem to have any genuine Joss Wheedon "joy" or "wonderment" in it. Maybe it's because every half decent (and they were only half decent) joke has been previewed and repreviewed to death by the hype machine?

I mean... the "it means someone really wanted our name to spell SHIELD" joke would have been a cute and funny moment that endeared that character to me had I NOT SEEN IT FIVE TIMES A WEEK FOR OVER A MONTH.

Also... why bother having a big Agent Coulson reveal when
A) anybody who knows who he is already knows he's the star
B) anybody who doesn't know who he is won't give a ****

I know it would have been hard to hide is involvement but.... I dunno.... THAT would have been a great "what? NO WAY!" moment to have him actually be a surprise.

AND ANOTHER THING..........

too much reference to the movies. I mean hopefully they drop that and just felt they had to to kind of re-enforce what this thing was but... Extremis, the Chit'auri...... I get it. This is the same "cinematic Universe" as the films.

Anyway... I'll keep watching cus I'm dumb.
