All Things: TELEVISON

Even More on The Munsters Redux | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

Moviehole landed the entire enchilada on what to expect from the pilot episode. Be warned... It's lengthy and covers everything so if you still wanna be surprised, steer clear of the above linkage.

The pilot episode, which is to be directed by Bryan Singer - who also was behind the camera for the "House" pilot, Superman Returns and X-Men - will focus on 10-year-old Eddie Munster, who is unaware that he's a werewolf and his family is composed of terrifying creatures. The madness begins when a baby bear attacks a scouting trip, only it turns out that this "bear" is actually Eddie transformed into a werewolf. Eddie is unaware of his metamorphosis, and it forces the family to move in order to protect the family secret. The coming of age story gets weirder as he fights against his family when he learns of a shocker: they're flesh-eaters!

What might be a good idea if only they did not try to coattail it onto a Munsters retromake. Part of me is at least happy that they are going out of their way to distance it from the original, until I realize again that they are using the original to somehow draw in an audience. This is a shining example of what is wrong, something new and a little different, yet packaged in the most cynical/abusive way.

Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Magaret

"The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Magaret"

I haven't seen this show mentioned here but I caught some episodes on new years day marathon (IFC)
I heard about it but for whatever reason never saw any shows till now.

Stars Will Arnett and David Cross .
Pretty F'in funny.

Nice to see David Cross in a role were he is the butt of the jokes and a complete ass instead of him being Mr Snarky Pants all the time.
Don't get me wrong I think the guy is funny but his hipster holier than thou stand up schtick was getting boring to me.

New episodes start to air on Friday along with Portlandia on IFC.
I have high hopes for both this season.

I agree with you about Cross. He's a bit of a humorless prig and a hypocrite. He will sign on for the horrid Chipmonks movies, cash the check, and then say how it was a soul killing experience. Can't have yer cake and eat it dude.

But if anyone is interested, they are having an event at cinefamily on Jan 9th...

$10/free for members

THE Q&A FROM THIS EVENT WILL BE LIVE-STREAMED ON THE CINEFAMILY BLOG AT APPROX. 10:30pm (PST) ON JANUARY 9TH!

Join David Cross in person for a special presentation of what’s possibly his most warped creation ever! Created, written by, and starring Cross (“Arrested Development”, “Mr. Show”), IFC’s “The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret” follows the awkward misadventures of an American office temp/convenient liar who bluffs his way into a senior sales position heading up the London office for the new energy drink/toxic poison Thunder Muscle. Aided in his imbecilic gaffes and misfortunes by his mysteriously devious and sometimes useless assistant (Blake Harrison of “The Inbetweeners”), Todd inadvertently wrecks havoc on the entire city of London, to devastatingly hilarious results. Co-starring Will Arnett, Janeane Garofalo, Amber Tamblyn and Russ Tamblyn. Come watch a special feature-length edition of Season One with us, followed by a Q&A with David Cross — and catch Season Two on IFC, Fridays at 10:30pm starting January 6th!

There should be some kind of limit on people saying something was a soul crushing experience. I spent 6 weeks working in a Salmon cannery in Dillingham, Alaska in the summer of 2000. I worked from 7am to 1am every god damned day for 7 days a week for 6 straight weeks with only two days off sprinkled in near the end.

THAT was a soul crushing experience and I went home with a half dozen fresh frozen Sockeyes and less than $10,000.

If you make 6 figures for a few weeks of filming on a ****ty CGI kids movie that spins off two sequels that continue to pay you... that's NOT soul crushing. Anybody who considers that soul crushing should be forced into a ****ing coal mine for 30 days.

David Cross isn't even funny.

And I don't want to hear any Arrested Development apologists. He's funny in that playing a complete tool. Good for him.

Oh and the one episode of The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret that I watched wasn't funny either. It sucked and so do people who liked it.

Dude , come on take a chill pill or whatever you do to relax .
That is a bit much don't you think?
Especially coming from some one who digs "New Girl"
That is a very lugubrious show to watch.
Everything seems labored on that gig.
Don't get me wrong I am fully supporting anything that gets Zoey D. on TV with any regularity but
that show is a bit well . . . . .

Maybe it will get better , I will continue watching and hope . . . . . .

Again David Cross' character is the butt of the jokes and comes out looking like an ass in the show.
I would think if you don't like the guy this would be enough to keep you watching to see how much they
cut him down.

Of course it helps if you like Will Arnet and the guy from the Inbetweeners (Neil on that show , Dave on this one)

I think David Cross is a bit of a hypocritical prick.

But I really like his stand up. A lot.

And the 4 or 5 episodes of Todd Margaret I watched did nothing for me.

Watch the Trailer For Netflix

In order to survive, Netflix is getting in the business of producing and distributing original content alongside their portfolio of catalog movies (a model first made profitable by HBO). I’m sure you’ve all read that they will be brining back Arrested Development in 2013. A couple other series are in the works, the first of which will premiere on Monday, February 6th 2012. Lilyhammer is the fish-out-of-water story of a New York mobster who enters the federal witness protection program after ratting on his boss. Sopranos veteran and E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt plays Frank “The Fixer” Tagliano. Netflix has released a 3 minute trailer for the series

TV Review: ABCs Work It - HitFix.com

Man this show is getting HORRIBLE reviews.

It'll probably be a huge hit.

Ratings: Work It Not a Complete Bust, NCIS and NCIS: LA Cop Big Numbers - TVLine

The men-in-drag comedy debuted to 6.1 million total viewers while scoring a 2.0 demo rating, retaining some 80 percent of lead-in Last Man Standing‘s numbers (7.9 mil/2.4). But while Work It improved on the short-lived Man Up‘s final audience in the 8:30 slot, it was down 17 percent from its predecessor’s own series premiere rating.

Martin Campbell to Direct ABC Pilot THE LAST RESORT

Coming off the lackluster Green Lantern, director Martin Campbell is dipping his toe back into television. THR reports that Campbell has signed on to direct the pilot for the thriller The Last Resort. The series centers on “the crew of a U.S. nuclear submarine who, after ignoring an order to fire nuclear missiles, wind up being hunted and escape to a NATO outpost where they declare themselves to be the world’s smallest nuclear nation.” It’s a fantastic premise, and The Shield’s Shawn Ryan and Dead Like Me’s Karl Gajdusek are the key creative team behind the futuristic drama. In addition to directing the pilot, Campbell will serve as executive producer.

this needs to be awesome.

Shameless had a decent premiere, House of Lies was a bit Zack Morrish, and Californication was great as usual.

I liked all 3 as well. Emmy Rossum, Dawn Olivieri, Natasha McElhone.......Nice!! None of the 3 are shows where I'm looking for some large meaning or message about something - I'm just enjoying the eye candy and the humor. But more especially the eye candy. I hope Dawn Olivieri's character gets a lot more time in future episodes of House of Lies. The show could flat out suck and I'd watch it just to watch her. Yea, I'm can be a sexiest pig sometimes!

EDIT: and the stripper/escort in House, Megalyn Echikunwoke, damn! Hot damn.

Frank Darabont returns to TV! TNT developing LA Noir pilot!
Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

Now here’s the full press release:

TNT has ordered a pilot for L.A. Noir, a new drama series from executive producers Frank Darabont (The Walking Dead, The Shawshank Redemption), Michael De Luca (The Social Network, Moneyball) and Elliot Webb (Tall Time Tales). The project from TNT Original Productions is based on John Buntin’s critically acclaimed book L.A. Noir: The Struggle for the Soul of America’s Most Seductive City, which chronicles the epic battle between Los Angeles Police Chief William Parker and mobster Mickey Cohen. Alissa Phillips (Moneyball) of Michael De Luca Productions serves as co-executive producer. Darabont is set to write and direct the pilot.

“The story of L.A. Noir is inspired by an incredibly dramatic period in the history of Los Angeles," said Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). "This project is a sweeping tale of the battle for the soul of the city that was waged between the forces of the LAPD and the West Coast mob. We’re thrilled to be working with Frank Darabont and Michael De Luca, two award-winning storytellers behind some of the most entertaining films of the past two decades, as they to bring this intense and exciting crime-drama to TNT.”

“Noir is a passion of mine, so I feel blessed to delve into a project that speaks in the hardboiled vernacular,” said Darabont. “John Buntin’s superb book, though non-fiction, is our touchstone and inspiration for the stories we’ll be telling, weaving fiction throughout the facts and facts throughout the fiction. The book provides elements that are irresistible, a big canvas with endless possibilities. The goal is to deliver on the tone that the title L.A. Noir promises: a smart, gritty, authentic, period noir drama. Also a blessing is the warm welcome we’ve gotten from Michael Wright and TNT, a great bunch of folks with huge enthusiasm for the source material. The best bonus of all is getting to work with my friend Mike De Luca. He’s terrific, a tremendously smart and talented producer, a gem. Partnering with him on this marvelous project after knowing him for so many years is an absolute treat for me.”

“It has been a personal dream of mine to work with Frank Darabont since he was kind of enough to become my friend when we met in the late 1980s," said De Luca. "He’s been an inspiration to me ever since. There is no one working at his level today who puts more integrity and humanity into their efforts to create lasting and original entertainment. This rich source material is a perfect fit for his talents, and we’re grateful to Michael Wright and TNT for this amazing opportunity.”

L.A. Noir is the true story of a decades-long conflict between the Los Angeles Police Department, under the determined leadership of Police Chief William Parker, and ruthless criminal elements led by Mickey Cohen, a one-time boxer who rose to the top of L.A.’s criminal world. The series is a fast-paced crime drama set in Los Angeles during the 1940s and '50s. It's a world of glamorous movie stars, powerful studio heads, returning war heroes, a powerful and corrupt police force and an even more dangerous criminal network determined to make L.A. its West Coast base.

Fox: TERRA NOVA Makes Money!! FRINGE Loses Money!! GREGORY Is Dead!! HOUSE and GLEE May Not Be Back Next Season!!
Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

The Fox events at the Television Critics Association yielded updates on much of its programming.

* “Terra Nova” has not yet been renewed for a second season, but Fox Network entertainment president Kevin Reilly says the show made money for Fox but says “creatively, the show was hunting.” (Prior reports indicate Fox intends to keep Brannon Braga aboard was showrunner if “Nova” returns.) The special effects reportedly demand Fox make a decision on season two by April.

* “Fringe” won’t be back unless Warner Bros. starts charging less. “We lose a lot of money on the show,” said Reilly. “At that rating on that night it’s almost impossible for us to make money. We are not in the business of losing money, so we’re trying to figure out if there a number at which we can continue with the series. We haven’t even sat down with the producers yet.”

* Jonah Hill’s “Allen Gregory” has been cancelled. Apparently Fox ordered it just to keep the “Simpsons” cast in line.

* “House” and “Glee” are not yet locks for next season, but “Glee” seems much more likely to be renewed given its ratings:
