All Things: TELEVISON

are you saying this show sucks? (i'm drunk so my normal serious meter is broken). because i've watched this 2-3 times and don't get the love. i think this show is stupid. i'm a science nerd and can appreciate quirks and aspects of that sort of intelligence, but this show just does not do it for me. i honestly don't get why it's so popular.

I think they only get the ratings they get because it's on CBS.... the only station old people watch and never change their channels.

I've tried to like The Big Bang Theory also, but I just think the show is boring. It's extremely unfunny too. The only reason it's probably funny is because people are thinking, "Oh they're nerds and they said something I didn't get... so it MUST be funny."

Now Community on the other hand... pure genius! Yet no one watches that. *Sigh* Pretty much sums up the intelligence of people in general.

Yeah, this is the tragic truth. I have had to make peace with the fact that the majority of America likes their entertainment very simple. So, the smarter the show=the less likely it is to succeed. I am on record as championing AWAKE. A really smart, well acted show with genuine moments of real emotion...that nobody watches. Sad but true. IDEOCRACY is not a comedy!!!!! It's a historical document.

I completely agree with you. I love Awake. At first, I thought it was just an ordinary police drama but when you add the sci-fi element to it... it takes it to a whole new level. But again, the "general" American audience doesn't want to think! They like stupid shows instead like American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, Two and a Half Men, etc...

I still miss Chuck. :(

Oh don't get me started...I still have those last 4 Chucks to watch because part of me is not ready to acknowledge that it is over.

Yes the show sucks and is painfully unfunny. I love how some friends are mine are trying to convince me that it's intelligent humor just because they make physics references. Yeah, explaining 'Schr?dinger's cat' to a blonde and her not getting it is ****ing brilliant writing (note to drunk lunchbox: sarcasm). What bugs me is that it could have been good (and in a few selected scenes actually is) but instead of making something interesting (like a joke about the Shr?dinger's cat experiment itself) it's almost exclusively focuses on the easy jokes (ha ha the dumb blonde is having a hard time understanding the nerd ha ha).

i watched about 2-3 episodes because my sister-in-law loves this show and what you're saying here is one of the #1 reasons why i hate it. johnny galecki comes off as a douchey nerd and the other guys just come off as awkwardly unfunny. the dumb blonde bit is overplayed.

ps. i'm not drunk anymore. :)

Ray Stevenson Joins DEXTER Season 7

If you haven’t caught up on Dexter, you may not want to read this article, because it will contain some commentary on the conclusion of the sixth season. But first, TV Line has news that Ray Stevenson (from HBO’s Rome and films like The Three Musketeers and Thor) will join the seventh season of the Showtime drama. There aren’t too many details on his character, but apparently the Irish actor is set to play a senior member of a dangerous crime ring from Eastern Europe who comes to Miami to learn who killed one of his associates. It’s not clear if he’ll be one of the main villains who could give Dexter (Michael C. Hall) a run for his money, but I’m sure they’ll cross paths for at least a couple episodes.

Oh hell yeah. Dexter...not so sure where they are going with the story, but having Stevenson on automatically gives it credibility in my eyes.

Met John Noble and Jasika Nicole at the Comic Expo here today. Both very nice!

Will NBC Start the Second Season of Grimm Before the Fall Season Begins? | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

why not? It's not like they have to labor on the scripts. Insert pseudo modern retelling of a fairytale into the cookie cutter 'oh my gal/partner/other is in trouble' mad lib, change a few words around and add semi lucid acting...done. I find myself hating myself more and more as I watch this every week.

But you crave another Godzilla movie?

You confound me.

But you crave another Godzilla movie?

You confound me.

I crave a GOOD Godzilla movie. Different thing entirely. If for nothing else than to replace that Emmerich abortion. You are reaching there a bit Doc. My POTC fixation is a better comparison.

TV Bits: Dish Network to Drop AMC, IFC, Sundance, WEtv, Plus: ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Southland’, ‘Borgias’, ‘The Simpsons’ | /Film

Has HBO started casting for Season 3 of Game of Thrones?
TNT’s Southland and Showtime’s Borgias renewed
AMC orders two more murder mystery pilots
Dish Network will drop AMC, IFC, Sundance, and WEtv

TNT has picked up its acclaimed cop drama Southland for a ten-episode fifth season to bow in February

Today’s other bit of news regarding AMC is a little less upbeat. Dish Network Corp. has just announced that it will be dropping all of AMC Networks’ channels, which in addition to its flagship AMC also include WEtv, IFC, and the Sundance Channel. The contract between the two companies is set to expire at the end of June — which falls after the end of the current Mad Men season, but before the start of the next Breaking Bad season.

According to Dish, it concluded that networks’ ratings couldn’t justify the rate increase that AMC Networks was asking for. Moreover, Dish says, it was was unhappy that shows like Mad Men and Breaking Bad were hitting outlets like Amazon.com, Netflix, and iTunes soon after airing on AMC — though AMC isn’t the only network whose series go online soon after a cable run. Dish promises its 14 million subscribers that it will “make alternative high-value channels available to our customers as replacements.”

For its part, AMC is insisting that the plans aren’t about ratings or value, but about a separate lawsuit filed against Dish by Cablevision (then the parent company of AMC) back in 2008. After Dish dropped AMC’s now-defunct Voom HD suite of channels, AMC sued Dish for $2.5 billion, citing a breach of contact. Last week, Dish lost its appeal of a pre-trial ruling that the company had destroyed evidence, and AMC believes Dish made its decision in retaliation.
