All Things: TELEVISON

Comic-Con: ONCE UPON A TIME Panel Recap

well...it made it to season 2. May have to do a catch up run.
Love it. People here were very skeptical about a season 2 as it was an incredibly expensive show. But ratings and very good word of mouth across social media helped get there.

Very curious how they'll "blend" the worlds now that the "magic has come" so to speak. And so many thoughts as to who Henry's father is, will be quite curious how that pans out..

Just thought high concept+high cost+crowded Sunday night schedule=plug pulled quick. Glad I was wrong and I think Doc Naysay's main complaint was that it wasn't enough, should get addressed with more confidence going into a second season. I am hoping that Grimm starts to open things up more as well.

TV Bits: Fred Willard, ‘The Wire,’ ‘House of Cards,’ ‘Breaking Bad,’ ‘Hulk,’ ‘Sons of Anarchy’ | /Film

Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito was nominated for an Emmy this morning for his role as Gus in the fourth season of Breaking Bad and, in an interview with Vulture, the actor talks about something that could likely be considered a spoiler for those who haven’t caught up. Skip the block quote if you haven’t seen season four of Breaking Bad:

[Returning to the show]? is always a possibility. I know he and the writers are full of ideas. It’s in the ether that it’s a possibility. I would love to go back and truly miss this particular group of filmmakers. And I also miss Gustavo. But there’s part of me that doesn’t even know if I could do it — I’m an actor. That run had such depth and such grace and charisma that I would be challenged to fit into his skin again. It takes a lot of deep breathing, some really deep yoga breathing. I really have to let myself go when I channel Gustavo. He takes me over.

It is a pretty good show, if you ignore all the obsessive fangirls. The first half of the first season is only alright, but then the show starts to really click and the second and third seasons are greatness. After that, it is pretty good, but there are still numerous episodes of brilliance. I didn't watch it at first because it seemed like a ripoff of Buffy with urban legends (which is what a lot of the first half of the first season is), but I kept hearing it was good so I gave it a try in the second season. You should give it a try just based on the fact one of the episodes is titled "Criss Angel Is A Douchebag".

Are you ****ting me? THIS is the look they are going with? Just when I think I can maybe live with this...they pull the rug out. The whole purpose of the Munsters was the shock of how they clashed visually with a 'normal' world. Nothing at all. So McConnell is like a Crichton type frankenstein apparently. Jayzus. Why are you trying to shoehorn the Munsters into what could be a good idea. It invalidates the whole thing. **** this I'm out.

It's not like The Munsters was a brilliant property to begin with...

Jonathan Rhys Meyers To Star in DRACULA Series for NBC | Collider

According to Deadline, the Dracula of this series will arrive in London posing as an American entrepreneur who claims to want to bring modern science to Victorian society (sounds like a steampunk dream!) However, similar to the Count of Monte Cristo, his actual desire is to wreck havoc on the people who ruined his life centuries earlier (are those people still alive? Hmm). Of course there is a woman, and she is – naturally – an almost a perfect reincarnation of his dead wife.

NBC, desperate to get out of their fourth spot in the ratings, seems to be pandering to anything considered hot at the moment. Dracula is the third straight-to-series commitment from the network in as many months (the other two are Hannibal and Neil Cross’ Crossbones). But as Greenblatt recently intimated (not an actual quote) at the NBC TCA panel, “We did your shows, now we’re going to make shows people watch”, which can more or less be translated to “thanks for the love, but it doesn’t pay the bills. And it sucks being No. 4. So, dumb shows here we come!” Still, the project may have value, and having Meyers as the star is a good start

I am loving how terrible all these new shows sound - because I watch way too much of what is already on. NBC should fire everyone in charge of greenlighting pilots, then fill those positions, then fire everyone again, because that is how awful they are at picking pilots.

The thing with NBC is most of these were basically you like em you buy em deals. No pilots, no development. Just 'take our word for it'. I wonder if there is a definite number on how many episodes must run. Yeah, it's pretty grim.

NBC's new shows lately tend to be awful whether they were chosen from pilots or bought on spec. I would have to think if there is anything watchable on that network outside of the Thursday night comedies, most of which only have a few seasons left at most. Maybe they'll bring Deal Or No Deal back and put it on four nights a week.
