All Things: TELEVISON

Did anyone watch Nashville? The cheerleader is playing a full-blown tramp, which is the best angle the show has going. It's basically a soap opera dressed up as a drama and is completely predictable. I had to slap myself because I liked it.

I'm intrigued now. I might just have to watch this on Hulu when I get a chance.

I watched Chicago Fire instead. It felt a little like Third Watch, though there was too much going on at once. It felt like the episode didn't really settle in until the 2nd half hour.

Revolution looks to be holding steady in the ratings. Strong DVR numbers. You would think in this day and age, networks would care about that just a little bit... I really dig that show. Last Resort is really good too. It sucks that the complex story might be too much for the general American audience to handle.

And dare might I say I actually like Guys With Kids? Yeah yeah, I know. Guys with kids... durrrr. Been awhile since I saw a sitcom with a laugh track, but there is something about the cast that clicks. Too bad it has a terrible lead in with Animal Practice. Also doesn't help that NBC is thinking of putting Whitney in that timeslot when Animal Practice gets canned. *Shudders*

Outsourced was tolerable, kind of like Kelly Kapoor's new show. It was heavily handicapped by the utter blandness of the main character, the lameness of the whole practical joke angle, and how mind numbingly annoying the fat guy was. The ridiculously beautiful Aussie chick could only cancel out two of those.

There was an article in the paper in the last few days about how networks do like DVR numbers now, since they add to the total viewers and viewers = ratings = cash. I hope if I told my DVR to record Animal Practice, it would refuse.

S2 of Suburgatory is back tonight. First ep back was really good. One of the best shows from last year.

I almost gave Suburgatory a pass after the very first episode (of season one) was 95% cliche 'plastic suburbanite' jokes, but the writers actually developed the characters and expanded the humor. I am still backed up to last season on my very backed up DVR, but I would probably give it an A- or B+ overall. The mother of the obnoxious girl probably deserves some kind of awards nomination, but then there is a surprising number of quality comedies lately.

I find Suburgatory to be in the "witty funny" category. It's not exactly laugh out loud funny like The Office or Modern Family but it works. I saw the first couple of episodes of the 1st season and was planning on watching it (since Modern Family showed right after). But you know, with Kings games and all sometimes you miss them. I was very disappointed to find out that Hulu didn't have episodes of Subugatory. Unreal huh? So I stopped watching and would only occasionally tune in if I remembered to watch.

Tonight's episode wasn't bad. I'm glad it's right after Modern Family now. If their ratings held up well before Modern Family, it would definitely do better now that it's on after.

Watched Chicago Fire again tonight. I'm really enjoying it. The pacing was better and I'm getting more of a Third Watch feel to it.

From Zap2It:

Suburgatory (Season Premiere) 2.8/7 7.60

The season (and timeslot) premiere of Suburgatory earned a 2.8 adults 18-49 rating, down 15% from a 3.3 for the season premiere on September 28,2011 at 8:30PM but up a huge 55% from a 1.8 for its season finale on May 16, 2011 at 8:30PM.

Just watched the premiere of Suburgatory and I'm still a big fan of this show's overall tone and dry humor throughout. It doesn't hurt that I think Jane Levy is cute as a button (I'm smitten) and perfect as the lead (not to mention the supporting cast is superb).

Animal Practice canned.

I'm surprised it took this long... They're going to use Whitney as a replacement... I don't know how the hell that show got a 2nd season. What the **** is NBC doing with Community? Are they waiting until Up All Night gets canceled so they can put Community back on Thursday?

Is Up All Night drawing poor numbers? I watched the very first episode when it came on and it was so boring I did not watch another (I almost always give a new show two episodes), but I believe critics love it.

I figure the longer NBC holds Community, the better its chances are for making it to another season. We just need more NBC sitcoms to fail so the network is even shorter on comedies (remember, 30 Rock and The Office are ending) than it already is. Of course, if NBC holds it too long, then there will only be that half season (but it could still come back next season even then).

If you thought Whitney was bad, I can only hope you never had to see Are You There Chelsea, which may have been the worst comedy I have ever witnessed. It was so awful it would not have made the ABC According To Jim / Yes Dear / Still Standing lineup.

Just watched the croquet episode of Suburgatory from last season. Tessa is way too attractive to be that much of an outsider. I'd like to say that the show needs more Wash, but his character is really not that great.
