All Things: TELEVISON

Discussing the episode with SPOILERS ahead.

---------------------------------------------------------

Amazing season overall. 12 episodes is much too short though but they made it work.

I understand what you mean by short but because it was short, episodes did not drag on as often with extraneous plots or other things to fill in the time.

Audrey's death was unnecessary and you could see it coming because after Kate killed the sniper, they decided that it would be a good idea to take their sweet ass time getting back to CTU because they decided to take a stroll in the park. I felt that her death was unnecessary because Jack didn't need that extra motivation to go ape**** on Cheng. Jack and Audrey have both already been tortured by Cheng for over a year, that should be reason enough to kill him, no? But it's just 24 doing what it does best... and that's to make sure that Jack never has his happy ending. Heller said it himself a few seasons back. Everything that Jack Bauer touches eventually dies.

From what I have read, someone was going to die this season and everyone was on the table including Jack. They did different scenarios and I guess they decided on Audrey (Kim Raver). I don't have a problem with that because I never liked her. I didn't like her Revolution either. I am not sure why I don't like her but I never connected with her. I was also surprised that they kept her in the park after the sniper was killed. Didn't someone on the show say one time to not get involved with Jack because you will die? I think it was Heller. Almost everyone that has been involved with Jack has died.

Those Russians sure are sneaky. So they apparently knew about Jack, Belcheck, and Chloe's secret raid on Cheng so that they could capture Chloe at the last minute? That part makes no sense, but that's the problem with only having 12 episodes. Speaking of Cheng, it was just sloppy writing overall at the end. He wanted the guy to start the boat. But just because the boat is leaving, doesn't mean that Jack or CTU will stop pursuing him.

Didn't Cheng and the Russians find out they were being watched via satellite so that is what tipped them off about Bauer? Isn't that when they went after Chloe? I don't remember the details off the top of my head but I thought that was how they found out the secret raid. I think that was his only option of starting the boat and leaving even though we know Jack would find a way to capture him. It's like vehicle pursuits. Bad guys are usually captured but they still run because they think they will be the exception and not the rule.

Pros and Cons of the season...

Pros:
- Jack was a bad ass as usual. Not sure what his kill count was this season, definitely has to be more than 20. His acting is as good as ever.

And it's a beautiful sight, man.

- Kate was great. I did wish that they let her do more, but she's literally a female Jack Bauer. Plus, I love Yvonne Strahavski anyway so my view on her is obviously skewed in her favor.

I think most fans and critics loved her. I wouldn't mind seeing more of her in a 24esque series.

Cons:
- Looking back at this short season, the Margot Al-Harazi arc was too long. Not enough time for Adrian Cross, Steve Navarro, Cheng Zhi, & Russians to really make their mark.

Agreed.

- Prime Minister Alastair took a backseat in his own country. I felt that he could have been in more scenes and maybe even in the same room with Heller most (if not at ALL times) because they're in the UK for crying out loud.

Yes, all of this just did not seem right. The British should have played more of a role but this is 24. There was one scene where they announce "Federal Agents". Umm, I don't think federal agents have any authority in England.

If and when they finally have a 10th season, I can see them bringing back Kate to team up with Chloe, Belcheck, (and hell, Tony) to rescue Jack. Give Kate the first few episodes to make her mark, and then break Jack out of prison early so he doesn't become the "dude in distress" for most of the season. Then you can have Jack go out with a bang, the only way he knows how.

They should have ended the episode with Chloe calling up Kate and saying "Let's go get Jack".....digital clock. :wootrock:

I don't think the ratings were bad but it seems they were average albeit lower then the original series run. Of course, television viewing has changed in the last few years and network viewing in general has decreased. According to the link below, 24 was the second most watch show on Fox behind American Idol if you count encores, DVRs, video on demand and online streaming. Unfortunately, advertisers only care about the ratings on the night of and 3 days after the showing and many viewers saw 24 after those 3 days.

I think I am getting tired of having a mole every season.

Xena boobs? What? :O

I thought Deathlok was going to get me to tune in to Agents of Shield, but I couldn't muster the enthusiasm. Maybe Xena might do it. ;)

I was one its biggest haters, but it really did improve over the course of the season.

I was inches away from declaring game over on it pretty much every week I watched it, then around the time Bill Paxton showed up, it actually became a good show.

Gotham Showrunner Bruno Heller Talks Teasing The Joker, the Cast, and More

Interesting as hell, but the main thing to remember is that this is a BATMAN show that is legally prohibited from showing Batman as far as I know. So how much will people tolerate. The knock on Smallville was that it was a Superman show without Superman and people got pretty sick of that by the end of things. It's an interesting concept and they seem to have really done the most with it...but it's ceiling is limited.

A friend of mine recommended Arrow to me, so I started on netflix. 5 episodes in to season 1, this is the cheesiest &@^%* ever. It's like Dawson's Creek with guns and arrows.

But yeah, I'm pretty hooked.

It gets way better but Katie Cassidy doesn't.
