All Things: TELEVISON

Review: FOXs Gotham gives us a Batman show without Batman

Starts Monday. Genuinely looking forward to this. I LOVE Donal Logue, but besides that, the kid they picked for the Penguin is spot on. Can see this going all Smallville because they cannot show Batman from my understanding, so naturally folks may become frustrated. We shall see. It certainly looks amazing with the Underworld blue-ishness and set design.

Scorpion Recap: Season 1, Episode 1 "Pilot"

If CBS’ shows The Big Bang Theory and Hawaii Five-0 had a baby, and that baby popped Adderall and was fueled by premium octane, it would be named Scorpion. The new fall action-drama centers on a foursome of geniuses (and one down-to-Earth waitress) who are recruited by Homeland Security to help defend against modern-day threats. Sounds great in theory, but the over-reliance on geek speak and the “Let’s talk so fast that no one will notice how dumb this is” tactic quickly wear thin and make this possible prodigy fall far short of its potential.

Dunno, I got a serious Leverage vibe outta this. And that show was WAY better.

Loved pretty much everything about Gotham, especially Donal Logue and the look of the show. The biggest minus was the jokester butchering the 'die in his sleep' line (probably on the writer, not the actor). Also, the Penguin apparently can breathe underwater or else Donal Logue is too dumb to make sure no one is coming up for air. And it is going to be pretty obvious that the Riddler was that police analyst. It was probably a good idea to make Bruce Wayne so young that nobody is going to expect to see Batman anytime. Also, Bruce has to leave town for a while before Batman shows up. I also give the show credit for not going overboard with the famous characters, although I am not sure why Catwoman needs to be there, other than that (grown-up) Catwoman is awesome. I am assuming the jokester was not really the future Joker. Throwing in a big new villain (Fish) is a wise move, because Gordon can't take down any of the famous villains, as they need to be around for Batman in the future.

The Blacklist premiere was beyond ridiculous. Way, way overboard. Also overboard is the number of people getting mowed down on SAMCRO. I am completely fine with it ending. More than completely fine.

Sleepy Hollow was pretty good and just as fun as the first season. Under The Dome is one of the worst things I have ever watched. Remind me to self cancel it next time it comes back.

Anyone else still watching Chicago Fire and Chicago PD?

Sad episode tonight for Chicago Fire and it's Season Premiere. I hate it when they kill off characters, especially good ones.

The problem i had with Leverage was that it was way too repetetive. I did love the characters though.

Well yeah, Leverage was pure formula. Even though I loved the characters, like you...I tuned out around season 4 or so. Timothy Hutton... I see Falcon and the Snowman, Taps...and I wonder where his career went off the rails. Puzzling.

Regarding Gotham - I wasn't over or underwhelmed. I like MacKenzie as a young Gordon and the other TDK baddies that were introduced was pleasant but the one key takeaway from the show? Logue is one of the finest actors in TV today. Loved him in this ... I will give it another week or maybe even the first season but they have to find a way to keep me engaged ...

Sleepy Hollow was very good though.

Chicago PD recorded. Will get to it on the weekend. Enjoyable, but not a priority.

South Park too.
