All Things:Thriller/Crime/Action

San Andreas was a hoot. Saw it for free in Atmos 3D, which was good.

Yeah, I know I was probably one of the few *laughing* at certain spots, but man, how could you not with the abysmal plot/dialog? This obviously has the highest summer movie body count in years.

What's it called when the movie has the big setup shot and then they seriously say the name of the movie they're in? Besides lazy writing?

Here's a review where AD is praised for 'her buoyant personality':

Review: 'The Gift' Starring Joel Edgerton, Jason Bateman, And Rebecca Hall

Bateman gives a fine performance, swiftly and easily turning up and down the sinister edge on his smooth charm. But while the film seems to focus on Hall and Bateman, the true star of “The Gift” is Edgerton as director. His deft, controlled maneuvering of plot, character, style, and tone is damn near perfect for his feature debut — even if it is in service of a very standard genre piece.

COP CAR Review
http://collider.com/cop-car-movie-review/

Hearing a lot of mixed reviews on this one. Coen Brothers lite is the comparison that pops up the most, although this review uses 'Ambin'. Still, Bacon is never bad, and most of the reviews agree that there is something here...it just kinda runs out of rope.

Review: Guy Ritchie's 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.' Starring Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, And Alicia Vikander

Said petty squabbles, and the set pieces that prioritize them, are by and large the best of what “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” has to offer. But just as the weightlessness of the film’s action and adventure will grant it a flimsy stature against the backdrop of the spy genre, Cavill’s management of defensible banter might not be quite enough to justify its contributions as a comedy. And so, in the wake of Ritchie’s failed amalgam of these genres—in the wake of a single enchanting chase scene and a smattering of warm chuckles—the thought we’re really left with concerns when Cavill will star in a movie worthy of these newly unveiled charms. Hoping to see for myself this weekend.

Watch: U.S. Trailer Finally Arrives For Long Delayed 'Shanghai' Starring John Cusack, Chow Yun-Fat, Gong Li, More

Way back in 2012, Harvey Weinstein promised that the star-studded "Shanghai," which by that point had already opened in several overseas territories, but had been sitting on the U.S. shelf for years, would finally be released via Radius. That didn't happen. Fast-forward a few years and now the movie is being dumped in a couple of weeks in limited release, and a trailer has been put together.

Mikael H?fstr?m ("1408," "Escape Plan") directs the international ensemble of John Cusack, Chow Yun-fat, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Franka Potente, Gong Li, David Morse and Ken Watanabe, in the 1940s-set story that follows an American Naval Intelligence agent named Paul Soames who travels to Shanghai, posing as a pro-Nazi journalist, in order to investigate the death of his good friend Connor, only for things to be complicated by a love triangle.

****ing ridiculous. I imported a blu-ray of this 2 YEARS ago. Why the **** even bother buying the rights if you're going to shelve it and then dump it in limited?

Because you're the Weinsteins, that's why.

The movie was ok. Nothing special.

‘The Usual Suspects’ at 20: Why The Ending Still Holds Up
http://collider.com/usual-suspects-ending-still-holds-up/

Y'know...I used to think this was all Singer, but judging by the body of work since, it's clear he just did a fine job with a TERRIFIC script by Christopher McQuarrie. Most of the movies with a twist this big, that the whole movie hinges on, good or bad, once you know the secret they lose rewatchability. NOT THIS ONE. Tremendous cast all at the top of their game(why is Dan Hedaya not in more stuff, and why didn't Gabriel Byrne become a bigger star????). 20 years later, I still watch this movie, knowing the twist, and looking for the seams. It's pretty f'n flawless.

I've never understood why Gabriel Byrne never made it big. Miller's Crossing should have been enough all on its own.

Exclusive: ‘American Ultra’ Clip Features Jesse Eisenberg Unleashing Bloody Violence
http://collider.com/american-ultra-clip-features-jesse-eisenberg-unleashing-bloody-violence/

Eisenberg/Kristen Stewart/Topher Grace...has there ever been a movie with as unlikeable a lead trio as this. It's a stoner flick and I don't even want to see it.

This looks more awful than Kristen Stewart's acting. Every time I see a commercial, it means another person at the studio's marketing department is getting fired on Monday. This should be dumped in the dead of February, on five screens in Iowa.
