Byfield

Let’s go Byfield! I took this pic last year and the Golden Boy arena.

It looks like he’s trying to do a little too much right now. He’s trying to carry his line mates instead of just playing within his role. He needs to simplify things a bit and not worry about chasing down every free puck, thread every needle with a pass and cover defensively every time another forward on his line makes a bad read.

Yes he can do a lot of those things because his size, skills and speed but they’re taking away from what makes him most dangerous having the puck on his stick looking to make the best decisions in the offensive zone.
This board redefines the term ‘tough crowd’. The kid’s got 4 points in his last 5. Take a Xanax or something. Sheesh. 🙄

Well.. he doesn’t have to fight, but 1G/1A per night from your future franchise #1 center wouldn’t be a terrible thing.
Anze has had a point per game exactly 3 times in his illustrious career. Byfield is on pace to wipe out AKs first season numbers and he’s basically playing WING. Let’s get some perspective folks. It’s never enough for some people.

His progression from last year has been nothing short of amazing, if he can progress next year half again from this year I don’t know what his ceiling will be. His off season work will be the key

So he should have at least 2 points per game. What a slouch.

Well, I think we all knew at the time; he would take a bit longer than some of the other top picks. He truly looks like something special moving forward; I watch in amazement. at his on-ice skills for a man his size. At this point I think he has far surpassed Lafreniere who was #1. Yes maybe a few boxing lessons will make him unstoppable.

Statue4Deano is anything but a “tough crowd”! That poster is #55’s staunchest supporter - by far! And his observations that were quoted were true. But QB’s game last night got him back in the right place. Having Kempe on the other wing opens the ice for Q and Kopi. Hope Hiller keeps the together.

I think it's now safe to say this about Byfield:

Byfield is absolutely not a bust and is not a liability, and therefore he should NOT be traded!*

*(unless it's for Connor Bedard or Connor McDavid in a 1:1 swap, which I HIGHLY doubt those teams would even consider).

Hmmm...based on what do you assume Bedard or McDavid will have a bigger impact on their respective teams hypothetically winning a Cup (or more) in the future...if at all?

I'd say the chances for them won't be considerably better. Neither is built for "playoff hockey", both will command the absolute maximum cap on their contracts for the foreseeable future (no matter what - nasty injuries, character problems etc.) and both are the kind of stars that tend to make the GM and upper management "lazy" - i.e. they pack the building on their own, just by their existence and flashiness and offensive production, and can give a (usually wrong) impression of "this team is good enough to push for the Cup" thus not giving enough motivation to the management to truly push all the available buttons in order to chase the Cup. It took Oilers years to focus on teambuilding properly and they have yet to get there...even with TWO incredibly offensively talented players.

I mean, sure, you'd take McDavid straight up for QB...but then again - would you, really? Considering the necessary cap sacrifices, how the team plays etc.? I don't know...on one hand I feel like the answer should really be "Yeah, totally" and that I'm off my rockers to doubt that, on the other hand it just seems like Gretzky v.2...loads of excitement and flash, but no Cup.

Almost like some kind of curse.

Guilty as charged. QB is my definitely guy. Also true that his game was off for a bit but now it’s back and the ceiling keeps rising. He was a holy terror against Chicago. They couldn’t stop him. Hell they could barely slow him down.

The QB/Kopi/Juice line is so stacked that sometimes Hiller needs to spread the wealth a bit. I don’t mind the strategy as long as he brings them back together eventually.

Bedard I’m still not sold on. Incredible offensive talent but the size will always be an issue when the speed of the game grinds to a halt in the playoffs.

All factors considered McDavid and Makar are the only players I would take over QB without a second thought. There’s a short list of players who I would consider including Bedard but I still lean on keeping Byfield just to see what the apex of his game looks like. Regardless QB is 100% a franchise player.

Whatever happens post Kopi and Doughty will depend on how far QB takes the team.
